Wondering if anyone has any info on late 80's Bundeswehr CH-34G camo.  I recall seeing a picture in a magazine or book years ago of a camo much like the lizard camo on their UH-1D's.  Anyone help out with pics?  Thanks in advance.

Do you mean CH-34G in the 1980s? I recall seeing retired machines coming through Gatwick in the early 1970s on their way to Britstows and BA Helicopters for S-58T conversion. They were certainly out of service by the end of that decade.

According to the Schiffer book on the CH-34 the German Air Force stopped operating them in 1974, the Army in 1972 and the Navy in 1975.

Only know of overall green in the camo. (dayglo patches on some,Navy ones silver and dayglo)

There were CH-53Gs in a three tone 'lizard' scheme of scharzgrau, waldgrun and olivgrun. 85+03 was the first one. (source F40 book)

  • 2 weeks later...

Towards the end of their service 60 & 72 sqns were re painted in NATO Green and Lichen Green - the same colours as the Harrier GR5 & &7 s were painted in.

The ex-German aircraft that were obtained by Israel had areas of FS30215 Brown applied in a wraparound pattern over the original overall RAL6014/FS14064 to cover the German markings and German language stenciling but the Isradecal IAF-11 decal sheet instructions do not indicate whether this was applied in Germany prior to export or in Israel after delivery.
