Courageous
As an absolute beginner when it comes to all things naval with the exception of a few 1/700 scale subs, I'd like for you guys to help me get going in a long term project of building some big(ish) subs of the Royal Navy. As I've mentioned, I've built a couple of 1/700 subs but they are just to small, need to go bigger...something like 1/144 or 1/72. A quick search doesn't reveal much on British subs in these scales, do you know different? I'd go as far to say that I wouldn't mind trying scratch building from plans to get what I want. I particularly like the diesel-electric types as the cold war stuff looks...'tubey'. What are my options?
Francis Macnaughton
Isn't Trumpeter meant to be doing a 1/144th Astute?
PLC1966
Get a Christmas wrapping paper inner tube, put a ping pong ball in each end, glue a cigarette box on top, spray black, job done....... 1

Although that would be nice, not quiet diesel-electric but it is RN. 9 minutes ago, PLC1966 said: Get a Christmas wrapping paper inner tube, put a ping pong ball in each end, glue a cigarette box on top, spray black, job done....... I wouldn't expect any other answer from a plane builder! Hold on, that's me but as you can see by my avatar, I have a slight interest.
whitestar12chris
Hi at the moment scratch building is your only option for larger scales the 'Porpoise, Oberon and Upholder' boats i havent found any plans for. only Amphion class & T class mods have i found plans for so far. regards Chris
Francis Macnaughton
There is a 1/400th card model of an Upholder as the Canadian Victoria which would be rescaleable at a pinch and available as a download at https://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-400-victoria-class-submarine-paper-model.html
Courageous
Cheers for the feedback guys. Just to clarify, when Upholder is mentioned, I mean HMS Upholder that is a 'Undine' class, built before and during WW2.
Courageous
Thanks go to @whitestar12chris for helping me with plans. What I need now is a good book on submarine building as I think they're built differently to ships? Stuart
