Harvs73
These are the Trumpeter and Hobbycraft 1/48 kits being done up as two aircraft that were involved in an embarrassing (for the RAAF especially) incident where an Auster took off without a pilot and several RAAF aircraft tried to shoot it down and failed so the RAN sent up two Sea Fury's to finally shoot it down. One of the aircraft had rocket rails on it so I hacked off the crap rockets from the Trumpeter rockets leaving just the rails.
abat
Nice work. And a bonus Sea Hawk in the foreground. Have you got decals for the Auster? That would round it off nicely.
Harvs73
No, no decals for the Auster as far as I know nor even a kit as yet. I have finished the Sea Hawk and have to take photos of it in a decent background.
qn30jEkPz7
Sounds as farcical as the battle of Palmdale. Going to have to go google the Auster incident now
Ed Russell
Even more embarrassing the Sea Furies were flown by RN exchange pilots. The Red Roo sets have a full history. The control tower tapes are a hoot. The Auster sent out to observe was most insistent that they did not shoot him down in error. http://www.aussiemodeller.com.au/pages/Reviews/Decals/RRD4853 Hawker Sea Fury Auster Incident review.html Edit - Links updated https://www.redroomodels.com/product/red-roo-auster-killers-1-48-scale/ https://www.redroomodels.com/product/red-roo-auster-killers-1-72-scale/ We actually would have included the Auster decals but there's no kit in any scale. Anyone good enough to do a conversion will be able to provide their own. PS - Nice models David........ you should be able to do an Auster J4 - I''m sure I can do some decals!
Harvs73
Thanks Ed. The one thing that astounded me was the difference in size between the two kits even though they are the same scale.
