Saunders Roe SR.53 reference thread

Rabbit Leader

Recommended Posts

Just thought it might be timely to start a reference thread dealing with the Saunders Roe SR.53.

Homebee has already started a thread advising us of the soon to be released AZ 1/72 kit here -

I've attached a link to 17 relevant photographs c/o the Airliner.net website - http://www.airliners.net/search?aircraft=43331&display=detail

I was just hoping that other BM members could contribute with any additional information / magazine articles to help us all make this most of this exciting new release.

As far as I can see, there's not much around so any additional information or walkaround photographs would be much appreciated.

Cheers and thanks... Dave.

These are quite handy webpages on the 53 and 177.

http://www.spaceuk.org/sr53/sr53 pics.htm

http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/2008/07/06/saunders-roe-sr53-and-177/

There are a couple of good technical links within those pages.  The idea of strapping an SR53 to the top of a Valiant, or semi-recessed in a Vulcan underside are shouting to be modelled!

Have to agree with a comment somewhere elsewhere on the forum, the SR.53 looked beautiful where as the 177 looked, well odd, especially that multi-framed canopy and around the nose area.  A scaled up and operational version of the 53 would have looked really good.

Not seeing anything there but a page header, footer, and boilerplate. No photos.

I got them ok. Seems to open another link to some 'village' photo hosting website. Some nice clear photos of the preserved example at Cosford.

Cheers.. Dave

Okay. Turned out to be a case of "operator error;" the nut between the chair and the computer had enabled a script blocker that prevented viewing of the photos. But now I notice they can't be downloaded. That has been disabled.

I thought it was strange as I could access them on a couple of computers and browsers, at least you found the reason in the end. You should be able to download them now - there was a box I hadn't ticked!

I'll have a look if I've got any more.

Britjet & FredG,

Thanks for contributing the additional material.

Photographs, drawings, videos, scanned articles etc. are all welcome in this thread. Almost anything goes as long as it's SR.53 related.

I believe that there was an SR.53 / SR.177 article in the November 1994 issue of "Aeroplane monthly".

Does anyone have a copy that they'd be prepared to scan and upload here?

Cheers and once again - thanks... Dave.

Are those SR.53 photos of the real thing or a model?

I must admit I wondered that too.

These are definitely the real thing.

Of course it is model it is not real !
One view of proportions a canopy and nose wheel is enough to understand is a model!

In due time we discussed about S.R.53 in this topic:

http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12065&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

............... and it of course is strange, :):) but on the

website http://www.Britmodeller.com;):) is some information on S.R. 53 too:

So I saw this thread while I was waiting for my membership to be activated. Today I took a full collection of images at RAF Museum Cosford of XD145 for anyone that wants to use them for their models. I've hosted the photos on my google images as a shared folder so you should be able to see them.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/50DnVm1lGpE0nuCO2

Photos are taken starting at the front, going around the port side, around the rear to the starboard side then returning in reverse taking pictures of underside / wheel details.

If anyone would like me to get any others send me a request and I will do my best. I haven't added any cockpit pictures as I can't really do any better than the museums 360 photo on facebook linked above.

Enjoy!

Stuart
