NealParkes
Hi everyone, This kit was given to me by my brother in law for Christmas, it is going to be air ambulance as I have a soft spot for these choppers seeing that I am a Paramedic, Helimed have helped me out more than once on a bad job. So I'm quite keen to try and do a decent job of this kit.First update is going to be the usual box, instructions, decals and sprue shots:The box with a nice piece of artwork:IMG_1061 by Neal, on FlickrInstructions in the usual Revell layout and their normal pain in the backside paint call outs:IMG_1062 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1063 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1064 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1065 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1066 by Neal, on FlickrA small sheet of decals:IMG_1067 by Neal, on FlickrThe sprue, not much flash on this kit compared to my previous EC-135, nice level of detail too for a small scale:IMG_1068 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1069 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1070 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1071 by Neal, on FlickrSo I've already made a start on the build but will wait a bit to an update as I really need to finish my "Planes on a pole" sig entry before getting carried away with new builds.Take it easy guys.Neal
Courageous
Hi Neal, I'll take a seat for this as I'll be interested to see what you turn out. I completed this kit last year, RFI here: I'm currently building the REGA EC-145 and will be interesting whether I've learned anything from the Agusta build?? Darby
Never seen an air ambulance modelled before so will be interested in this one. May I also offer my admiration to yourself and fellow Paramedics for the work you do.

Most of the time the stuff I deal with is far from life threatening and probably doesn't need an ambulance. However from time to time we help to make a difference but we are just one part of the team.
NealParkes
Quick update on the build:First of all he build starts with the interior, surprise surprise!! So I clipped off everything I needed for the cockpit and interior, well almost I forgot one seat:IMG_1072 by Neal, on FlickrThen I gave everything a coat of AK Black primer:IMG_1074 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1075 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1076 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1079 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1077 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1078 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1080 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1081 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1092 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1090 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1091 by Neal, on FlickrThat has got me started, since then I have started to paint the interior using some old school Humbrol Enamels ( I still think enamels are better for brush painting), so just waiting for the first coat to dry before putting the second coat on and getting some photos for the next update.Good night everyone.

NealParkes
So I put the wash (Flory dark dirt) on and then took it off to give this:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrI must say that the Flory washes are one of the best purchases I've ever made! I just seem to get on with them well, I find them really easy to use and give great results straight away!
Paramedic
Lovely build on a good subject. Looking good so far and I am tempted to also, finally add a chopper to my stash..
NealParkes
So after what seems too long I thought i should update you on how the chopper is going. I've started getting the internals into the fuselage halves. I need to give it a proper dry fit once the one side is glued in but so far the fit looks pretty good.Untitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrMore to come soon.
NealParkes
So I have finally got an update on the Augusta 109:I started to mask up the kit:IMG_0795 by Neal, on Flickr by Neal, on FlickrIn preparation for the application of the primer:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrThe next step should be laying down some paint to get the wire and then the red colours on.Neal
NealParkes
Hi All, Well it has nearly been a year since my last update on the Augusta A-109 and the reason is that I kinda lost the mojo for this build so she has been a bit of shelf queen since last April. Anyway I have recently decided to get her done, mainly because I am soon to be evicted from the man cave so that our daughter can move out of our room in to hers. So here is what I have been up to: First I painted the base colour for the underside of the aircraft using Tamiya X-2 Gloss White, then the masking fun started: Painting has finally started. by Neal, on Flickr Painting has finally started. by Neal, on Flickr Painting has finally started. by Neal, on Flickr Then I decided to paint a base coat for the red to go on to, I have read that pink makes a very good base for red to go over, so I put done a coat of Tamiya X-17 Gloss Pink: Painting has finally started. by Neal, on Flickr And here she is drying off in preparation for the red coat: Painting has finally started. by Neal, on Flickr Next to do is the main red colour, now I have some choices I have Revell Fiery Red in an enamel pot (I’m not a fan of spraying enamels), I could use some Tamiya X-7 Red or some MRP-184 Signal Red. At the moment I am thinking that I’ll use the MRP. Also I need to spray the rotor blades, the masking there should be fun, not! Anyway plenty to do but I’m glad to have the Augusta back on the bench. Take care and thanks for looking. Neal
NealParkes
So here are the results of tonights efforts. First of all a couple of photos before taking off the masking: Untitled by Neal, on Flickr Untitled by Neal, on Flickr Untitled by Neal, on Flickr Then came the dreaded mask removal, I always get nervous in case the masks have not worked!: Untitled by Neal, on Flickr Untitled by Neal, on Flickr Untitled by Neal, on Flickr So there are a couple of bits of overspray that will need sorting out, nothing too bad though. However I’m not 100% convinced on the red being “right”, the Rega choppers red seems less “orangey”. Oh well I’ll live with it has I am not going to re-mask it up and re-spray it. Thanks for looking. NealParkes
So it is time for another overdue update! After the painting session I applied a gloss coat in preparation for decals, and then got busy with them, fortunately there are not that many on this build: Untitled by Neal, on Flickr I used some Mr Mark Setter Neo & Mr Mark Softer Neo as a setting solution and I was not very impressed by it, I don’t know if the formula has been changed but I had heard good things about the Mr Mark Setter & Softer in the non-Neo versions. Anyway I’ll be hunting for some decal solution that is strange than MicroSol & MicroSet in the future: Untitled by Neal, on Flickr by Neal, on Flickr After getting the decals on I sealed them with a coat of Mr Hobby GX100 Superclear III, this is my current favourite gloss coat especially when use with MR Hobby SLT: Untitled by Neal, on Flickr That’s all for now folks, we are nearly finished with the little A-109 and I look forwards to getting it off the bench and into the cabinet. NealParkes
Hi all, So I have finished the Augusta!! Hooray!! For weathering I applied a coat of Flory Models Grey wash: Untitled by Neal, on Flickr And then removed that, I then added all the lumps and bumps, landing gear, main rotor and tail rotor. And then unmasked it, here is a photo of the finished kit I will upload a RFI post soon. 1-72 Revell A-109 K2 REGA 04 by Neal, on Flickr Thanks for following along with the build. And please head over to the RFI thread here for full photos. Neal

Antti_K
Beautiful work! Excellent paint work and weathering. I've always thought that A109 is the best looking helicopter there is. Kind Regards, Antti
