Kev has been talking about this this foray for a few years now, every time we meet up some of the details and how to tackle them get mentioned and discussed to great length.

I reckon there is is a few hundred hours spent so far on just how this project could be done, just in chatting with a few people in hobby, that gives some idea on the planning phase alone.

Kev buddy, really looking forward to this one progressing, after seeing the last few projects materialise I think you are ready to totally nail this one :D

With all that brass are you going to reinforce your work bench to take the weight

Lol

I did actually weigh the set 1/2 lb 250gms approx.

Richard thank you very much for your kind offer. At the moment I've changed my mind and am going to try keel blocks as per dry dock.

Cracking job on your pedestals though and I very much look forward to watching  'Bluenose' being completed.

Sorry, I'll shut up now and put my money where my mouth is ....

As we've already seen things that I thought I'd made my mind up on have already changed

With you lot along for the ride it should be fun

Hi Kev,

With regards to your need for internal pics - I've searched through books that you may not have and as you might have guessed - there's not a whole lot

Check your Email.

As to below deck figures - here are some more options though some will need minor sculpting adjustments to deal with boots etc...

Miniart - all:

US army Drivers

German Tank Repair crew

Soviet Tank crew at rest

German soldiers at rest

....and there is also a single Duffle coated figure (which is quite nice) in the British Officers set.

All will need Hornet head replacements

If your depicting a mediterranean based boat have you considered using SAS, LRDG and Eighth Army figures?

You'd have to chose/modify figs wearing shemags etc.

Once on patrol dress was very relaxed and shorts/singlet combos would be very popular especially below decks.

Nice to see it under weigh! I have copies, incidentally, of Home Waters Mtbs and Mediterranean Mtbs up for grabs if you're determined to bnuild a total reference library! :) I will, of course be watching this with great interest, be kind to Dobbin!

Thanks Fraser for the offer

I already had MTBs at home and on the above recommendation I now have MTBs in the Med.

  • 3 weeks later...

Going to be difficult to go back now....

This cut out is iwo wardroom looking through to radio room

P1080595 (Copy)

P1080596 (Copy)

Fitted blank, two by 0.5mm card to give correct thickness to side planks

P1080597 (Copy)

I'm hoping to show the diagonal planking used on these boats. The outer skin are laid at 45', the inner skin at 60'. These are separated by oiled calico.

P1080608 (Copy)

Work started on radio shack. I'm making this as a separate module for ease of building. Started making the various boxes/radio/radar.

and a peak through.....

always going to be difficult to show the view through

I'm calling it progress

Thanks for looking in

Your going to lose a lot of the radio shack with the officers' heads bulkhead in place...

Well I guess I'll have to cut away the bulkhead....

Mixed bag to prove that we're moving forward....

Work commenced on fitting out Wardroom

P1080617 (Copy)

P1080622 (Copy)

Making up Tx, Rx, Radar etc. modules

P1080625 (Copy)

Back, bottom of cockpit added. Area behind cut out, opening to left is stairway to below decks. As usual difficult to capture with a camera the Mk1 eyeball is far more adaptable.

P1080619 (Copy)

May well cut more in the future. Definitely an area to be lit by LEDs.

and through the side

P1080620 (Copy)

Trying to show the planking here is just looking messy. I'm thinking I may do just a plain cut out but extend aperture further aft giving a full view of the Gentlemen s  Privvy.

P1080621 (Copy)

Nearer the bow section when I cut through for the forward mess deck I'm going to have a larger area to play with and may be able to do individual planks with cloth between.

Thanks for looking in

Wonderful sense of humor fitting the thunder-box next to the radio shack

On one of the pics of the shack there appears to be a hatch through to the privy! :hmmm:

Perhaps so the CO could keep on top of the situation lol

As they say in Gods county  “ Proper Mizzly Today "

SWMBO would more likely use it as an ironing board lol

Don't tell her but I've sneaked the Puffer into the lounge.

No doubt in my mind that LEDs are the way to go, did it in the MAS boat but that's another story that photo$%%^$$"%^&((()%$ mucked up.

Battery location sussed, switch to be decided but it's what colour lights?
