Laying down the ground work for the next project

As above Italeri 1/35 72' 6" Vosper Motor Torpedo Boat released in 2011. I purchased this on release and have sat on it whilst I hopefully improved my skills, particularly  PE work.

A bit of change in scale from the last project  1/200 Clyde Puffer which can be seen sitting on the Vosper

The Griffen set is rather daunting. 20 pages of instructions and the brass work weighs in at 8oz (250gms).

Not forgetting some very nice resin Vickers M.G. donated by @Gremlin56 which I currently in the loft.

I think that's enough to wet your appetites, more details to follow

I noticed that in the Italeri PT Boat conversion kit I left of one of the sprues containing the 20mm Oerlikon. This gives me the option of upgrading MTB 77 with either an Oerlikon or Breda on the bow.

Original inspiration came from @Gremlin56 here http://www.modelshipwrights.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=view&artid=5253

Sorry  Julian couldn't find the group build :-(

I've been caressing plastic today ...

after 1/200 I feel I can stroll the decks on this one

Hi Kev - "Lust for Bredas" sounds like an Iggy Pop line:giggle:

1) They look so innocuous

2) Apparently they were left in their terrestrial colours - olive green and sand (interesting colour combos)

3) The Italeri kit is apparently very good

4)  You might want to be beat me to doing MTB 82!!!!!!

He probably put it down for the photo....

Health & Safety don't you know

I'm curious as to what boat he's on.

If that's a torpedo tube it's going to be interesting firing or loading the torp.

The petrol cans would indicate long range/special forces

Anyone got any ideas?

Kev

PS Anyone got any ideas how to make folders within folders on flickr ?

  • Mike changed the title to Vosper 72' 6" MTB

As the topic starter, you can go in and edit your first post.  As Admin, I can just long-click in the title and change it (which I have).  Not sure if you can do that as the topic starter, but if you can it's a bit more convenient :)

Just got back to base after jollies and looked at some of my references...you might want to reconsider crew figures if you're modelling MTB77.  I can't find a duffle coat on any picture of a Med based boat (but happy to be proven wrong).

It could be so easy to get carried away with this but I think the Mini Art British tank and armoured car crews and tank riders, with a bit of judicious filing and Hornet Heads, might be a good starting point:

Hi Al

Hope you enjoyed your Jollies!

Thanks for the heads up. Those Mini Art figures would certainly lend themselves to conversion....

Duly saved to favourites

As to duffle coats, I lived in Cyprus as a child and I can remember snow laying on the beach in January.

I must admit the figures I posted above were what I have in the stash.

At the moment everything is a blank canvas, the only bit I've decided upon is that it is going to be cut away on one side to reveal the scratch built interior. Inspiration coming from British Motor Torpedo Boat 1939 - 45 by Angus Konstam Illustrated by  Tony Bryan

Vosper (Copy)

So anyone with any internal pics of accommodation i.e. mess room, wardroom, galley & radio room would be gratefully received. I do have plenty of the engine room.

It will probably be a Med boat so that I can avoid the issue of what colour is G45

All suggestions (at least polite ones ) welcome, were in for a long haul here

The Channel Adversaries thread is here:

Took a quick look and it should be test of anyone's sanity.

Looking forward to your take on the  Vosper, great selection of goodies you have collected too. Not going to go for 234 are you? One f the best color schemes I have seen on a Vosper IMHO.

Or give them a good idea on how to get the best out of the Italeri Vosper...

No, probably one of the Med boats. Breda on the front for a change? Or I've seen a pic with 5/6 Breda 20mm canons... they did remove the torpedo tubes.

This is gong to be great, I don't really do ships but this looks interesting - I know nothing of the coastal waters War..  Mind if I just sit quietly to one side here?

Saw this kit on the way down into my LHS..  Now you've got me thinking..  Not cheap, but it looks an exciting kit...

Easy build by all accounts.
