kapam
Excellent build! I'm guessing you have a fair bit of weight in that nose and in those nacelles. I've just built a P-38 (Dragon kit) and it feels like a diecast model when I pick it up. Fantastic work.

72modeler
Roman, A very nice build all around, HJGB and Mama's Boy are my two favorite 20th FG Lightnings by far! You also managed to get the tail-low sit of a P-38 correct. Something about the nose strut looked off to me, and after looking at numerous photos, it appears that there is not enough forward rake to the nose gear strut. I'm betting it is probably a fault of the kit and how the nose strut fits into its mount. I have attached some photos to show what I am talking about. In no way take this as a criticism of the fine job you did building and finishing the Academy kit, but just an observation on how to make an excellent model an even better replica. Excellent photos and history of the surviving P-38's...looks like the old Airfix kit, White 33, has been recovered and restored, as well as reunited with her original pilot! I hope Lightning fans will enjoy this website. http://p38assn.org/surviving.htm Edited September 11, 2017 by 72modeler added link to another P-38 website
Luis Alfonso
Hi My Friend Roman!!! Congratulations fro this nice wonderful build!!! I have had a lot of chances to watch Lightning models in natural metal finish and the builders tried to get a nice finish in them, have valued the effort they have spent in kits of the very latest generation of companies promising a real jewel, but despite of the kits and the effort have left me with some disappointed attitude ans I have made myself an idea that it was really impossible to get this finish in this wonderful bird; BUT looking at your magnificent work, really think it's real and possible!!! Have enjoyed the pics you have shared here and without a doubt this nice bird deserves a trophy and be watched in the flesh in many shows. For sure as I haven't have the expertise and the "flight hours" you have under the belt for meits impossible and will require too much practice and time to perfect a technique as yours. While I have now not too much time and can't have a real pace as yours, am very happy to watch this marvelous masterpiece!!! I liked a huge lot the way you finished this alclad skinned bird, the tonal variation is incredible and nice to have as reference for next builds. (For sure, mine will be in Green and grey paint, as am not so brave to get a kit and work it as yours!!!) Thank you very much for sharing!!! Cheers, Luis Alfonso
warhawk
Very successful model, i like the subtle exhaust stains behind the superchargers. I have noticed that the first picture of Your models always has a gray scale behind the model. Could You tell me it's purpose?
