DaveJL
Hello all, Here's a few pictures from my recent trip to Kiev. State aviation museum first: The sheer size of the Mi-26 was quite something! I've been to a few museums like the above across Central and Eastern Europe and this one was definitely the best and for the equivalent of about £1.50 entry fee, it's a must if you're in Kiev. Highlights for me being the trio of Tu-22s and the Tu-95.

depressed lemur
50 thousand people used to live here. Now it's a ghost town. Sorry for the Call of Duty quote but the ferris wheel at Pripyat always brings it out. As for the pics, thank you, these are very impressive, and they do not look as derelict as some pictures from other museums. I would love to visit somewhere like this. I imagine that the locals would get curious if you tried to do a full on walk round with some of those exhibits.
Latinbear
What a great aircraft museum and a fabulous set of photos from both museums and Chernobyl/Pripyat. Thanks for sharing these. What's the big lattice type structure in shot five of the Chernobyl set please? It's good to see the Chernobyl reactor building finally enclosed. There was a fascinating programme on the telly about how that was constructed and then slid into position.
Shar2
Having also just returned from Kiev, I will be writing and article on both the aircraft museum at Zhulyany and tank museum at the Motherland Memorial.

I'm led to believe it was never finished. It really is quite a sight!

stevehnz
Those are beaut photos, thanks for sharing them with us, I've just found a reason to visit Kiev. ( I'm sure there are more than just this too) The big radar array at Chernobyl is the Duga, I saw a TV programme on it recently, a real cold war relic. Steve. RidgeRunner
Nice. I went round the Zhulyany museum ten years ago. It is a great collection of Soviet and Russian aircraft. The Be-12 was merely a set of wings laying on the ramp at the time. I'd recommend it to anyone who goes out there. Near the museum I recall there was a military/govt building with three machines "on guard". Zhulyany was also good for AN-26s in and out of overhaul. When I was there '150' of the FA Nicaragua was doing circuits :). Martin
