Airfix, The Golden Years Group Build. Classic Airfix 1950's- 1980 Chat

Picked these two kits up at Southern Expo on Saturday. Whilst quite common kits, they are in my preferred scale and within the timescale. Have plans for them both and got both for just over £15.00. I think the Spitfire is original boxing?

No plans on rescribing! In fact I have never attempted rescribing!

...I take it that at 1/72 it isn't the 4.99 version that ALDI were punting out...

How big is it - anyone know...

Finally decided on my build

Airfix 1/72 Sopwith Pup 1973 boxing (blister) which I still have.

Decals are shot so will be using a aftermarket sheet (the exact scheme be a surprise I'll reveal in the build thread!)

Have some generic WW1 etch sets which I'll use to spice up the exceedingly sparse cockpit. Need to add a floor, side ribbing, new seat and a detailed  instrument panel at first glance.

Will also add an Aeroclub white metal gun.

Hopefully this will be my first ever bi-plane built!!

Never mind about the sopwith rigging, how many pairs of pants will need to have the elastic recycled to rig the Golden Hind !

Being of a certain age, I took it as a given that they were Valerie Singleton's and that you'd also need sticky-back plastic and a washing up bottle (brand taped over because this is the BBC)!

I had no idea that Valerie Singleton used stick back plastic to hold her underwear up, that had to smart a bit when you took them off !

Should I be relieved or worried that I wasn't the only one to think of knicker elastic!

I'd be more worried about the fact you weren't the only one to think that :o

Actually Lawzer, Ventora is right, all these references to metric will need to stop post Brexit !

Besides, the Golden Hind must have been designed in Imperial Measurements ;)

cheers Pat
