old thumper
I am building the old 1962 Airfix B-17 kit and have had to sand down the windows to make them flush with the outer skin of the fuselage. The trouble is the windows are now a bit cloudy and need buffing up, any suggestions?
M1ks
Micromesh polishing sheets, like very very fine wet n dry sandpaper, from about 4000 to 12000 grit, then a quick polish with automotive polish is normally enough but you can also use tamiya polishing compound though that's expensive if you're typically doing aircraft and armour and not looking for glossy finishes much.
Black Knight
Toothpaste also works as a polishing paste
John Laidlaw
Or a nail buffer - here's one as an example, although you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere: http://www.boots.com/beauty/nails/nail-tools/boots-4-way-buffer-block-10111164
DAG058
The Tamiya polishing compounds are great. As previously said they are a bit pricey but a set will probably last your full modelling life. Even decent canopies have a noticeable difference once polished with them. For a quick and easy solution try just dipping the canopy in klear/pledge.
Vicarage Vee
I did the very same thing to the very same transparencies OT and micromeshed them back to life. Nail buffers would work too as suggested but I chose the former. Coat of Klear at the end for good measure. old thumper
Thanks very much to you all. I shall take a look at the model later and decide which of these methods most suitable for this particular build.
