F-14A Tomcat - Tamiya 1/48

Recommended Posts

And another one finished project. It's Tamiya's F-14A Tomcat in 1/48 scale. I build it straight from the box without any aftermarket parts.

Building this kit was fun and so easy. But for that price... i wish tamiya would spend some extra parts like different chin pods and beaver tails, to build some different blocks

of this beautiful aircraft.

Painted with gunze colors. Washing was done with MIG-washes . I tried to keep the weathering simple and tried not do overpower for the time period

this plane was in service (around 1979) .

Edit: For the painting, i didn't used any alclads on the hot section. This was done with tamiya colors. I was inspired by a youtube bild from " Scale-a-ton" . It's worth seeing !

Very nice!

However you drilled the holes for the rear Phoenix pallets on the belly. Are you yet to install them or is it an oversight?

Here's some trivia that I recently learnt. There's no need to get overly excited about using the inflated wing bladders when the wings are forward. However you could use them if the pilots are in and the engines 'on' then yes the bladders are filled & inflated with bleed air from the running engines 👍🏿

I don't know the rules about leaving a jet with its engines running? Anyone know?

She looks amazing! A real tribute to your building and painting skills.

I really like the fact that she has one nozzle constricted and the second is dilated (which was a common sight with Tomcats, I believe).

Thanks for sharing with us.

Chris.

@ Tony.. i drilled the holes in advance. Later in the built, i decided not to use the rear phoenix pallets. But i left them open...maybe later i rearm the leftover phoenix missiles...maybe.

Another fantastic model as your 'Strike Eagle'...

But... I prefer this... because: Is a Tomcat and... is a Jolly Rogers!!

Excellent model. How did the kit's decals perform as Tamiya's are usually a 'hit and miss' affair?

Thanks for any FB.
