Cheers folks for the comments.

And we all know what it`s like , oooh new tool, where can I get that from.

Right, not a lot happened today, the Mother appeared for a few hours.

But I have been looking at the IP and PE.

This will be the first time using PE so I am a bit nervous.

At least there is an alternative decal for the IP if I muck the PE bit up.

I P 1

Tomorrow I will take the plunge and remove the dials etc and dry-fit the PE.

I also looked at the "Dolly -cart", and the good old EJP`s are there, just to comfort you.

Dolly 1

Ahhhh, a blob of filler and a touch of the file should sort those little pests out.

Lets see what I can do over the weekend.

All comments welcome.

Ah, nothing beats some PE bits for good fun! :D Seriously, PE can improve by far the look of things, especially IPs and consoles.

Just use some blue tack on top of a cocktail stick to handle the tiny bits - you don't want to feed the carpet monster (ask me how I know?! :chair: )

Thanks for the advice Giemme, I will heed that when it comes to the small bits.

Well, let`s see.

Continued on wit the dolly.

Filled and cleaned up the EJP`s and seams.

Then attacked it with the glue.

Dolly 2

Still a few more bits to add but leaving alone for now.

Next the floats.

Float 1

Four parts and four holes to be drilled in each float.

Jig to hold it.

Float 2

And to clamp it.

Float 3

Same was done for the other side.

Next the main beaching gear.

Both been glued but the top one has been cleaned up a bit.

Beach 1

That`s about all for today, not a lot but life rears it`s ugly head so often it`s unbelievable .

All comments welcome

Looks good and I like your progress , but aahhhhahhh look at those deep trenches. You could drown in them. Shame on you Italeri in the 2000th. Cheers

They are deep, lost my scalpel in one of them LOL. But we will see once a couple of coats of primer filler is applied.

Thanks Simon.

Thanks for the comments on those panel lines , as I said , we will see.

Anyhow, been up to some more at the bench.

leaned up the wing floats and drill the holes for the bracing wires .

Float 4

Right, those wing lights!!!

Ugly were they not, too right.

So following what Giemme advised me to do, I did.

WL 2

So cut some card.

WL 3

And fixed into position.

WL 4

Leave that to set then may fill the sides out.

Not sure yet

Hope to update later today.

All comments welcome.

Great progress, Simon! Lots of seams to deal with, but that's quite typical for an Italeri kit

Albeit I used the plastic  card trick on my current Hasegawa build, so...

Like others I remember building the Airfix Sunderland as a kid. So will follow be following with interest.

Your choice of markings...

...do seem to be unusual for a Sunderland.

So I had a dig around the internet. It seems that this colour combination did exist. Here are two Sunderlands that certainly look to have black undersides early in WW2. Interesting that Italeri have done markings for N9029. The third photo below could also be N9029. An educated guess as the last digit is obscured in the photo.

N9048 at Invergordon 1940

Another of N9048

N902? at Pembroke Dock

Not conclusive evidence but does show that Italeri could have a valid colour scheme.

My 2p....

Dave

Just found this in a discussion on painting Sunderlands.

Is it just me or does N9048 appear to be underway with no visible means of propulsion in that 2nd photo?!

OK, second update.

The engines, 4 of them, 3 the same , the 4th turned on its side by 75 Deg.

Bits.For 1 that is.

Engine bits 1

Once cleaned up and dry fitted, all looks OK.

Apart from the air scoop, there is no clear locating marks for it to fit the cowling, not even in the destructions.

All the ref pics I have looked at are for the MK 3 Version which had different engines.

So another squint through the paperwork and I saw one pic which gave the clue.

About 2 mm from the cooling flaps, using a MK1 eyeball that is.

Engine bits 2

And in place.

Engine bits 3

The back of the engines look like this .

Engine bits 4

Scary, but fortuitously, you cannot see anything of this when fitted .

The front are quite nice.

Engine bits 5

Sorry for the blurriness will post another pic at some date.

Right, the props , I drilled through the boss to allow easier mounting for painting.

Trimmed the spinner, and glued together.

Prop 1

Oh well, only another three to do.

All comments welcome.

OK folks, final up date for the night.

Engine, I took another pic.

Engine bits 6

Also added the cross beams to the bomb bay roof.

BB Roof 1

Right, that missing port hole?

Well I looked all over and it`s gone to the Carpet Monster.

I don`t have the skill to make another one so...

I decided to cover it over so that it looks like a running repair.

This was because of an incident involving a goat, a puffin call Percy and a bowl of chili.

Well thats my story and keeping to it.

Onward, disc of plastic.

MP 1

Glued into place .

MP 2

The other side.

MP 2

A bit of filler.

MP 4

And the other side.

MP 5

Once dried and sanded, I will glue a square of paper over the hole on the outside, so it hopefully will look like patch.

I am off to bed soon.

All comments welcome.

You're doing a really good job on this Simon; quite rapid progress too :thumbsup2:

For tiny photo etch bits the 'pencil placers' are good. They are pencils with a slightly sticky tip; the tip is used to pick up and place the parts.

It looks like they're £2.49 for two in the UK.

https://www.umpretail.com/products/ultimate-photo-etch-placer

Other brands/stores available.

They last ages as, just like any pencil, they can be sharpened. In this case, sharpening restores the stickiness of the tip.

Have a good kip !

Best regards

Thanks TonyTiger and Snappercity for the tips.

Right, sanded the window in and out.

MP 6

MP 7

One more stage to go.

A piece of foil cut into a square and glued over the front to represent a canvas patch used in a quick what with moment.

Engines: while cleaning up the other 2 I notice a problem.

One of the air-scoops was short.

By about 2 mm.

AS 2

Oh bugger.

Plan is fix the piece I have onto the engine cowling.

Allowing for the missing length.

Then cut and shape some plastic struct to fit, then blend from there,

Anyhow not tonight.

All this leaves now is the rest of the internals and turrets to check.

:hmmm: That air scoop looks rather annoying. But I think your plan is going to be working

Ciao

It is Giemme, thanks for backing my idea up.

Nice fix on the windows and boy, the fit is not that great is it?

You are wrestling it into shape though.......

Good Job!

Greg in OK

Cheers Greg in OK, there is not a lot to be seen once buttoned up I am afraid, only the front office and waist gunners area, and even that is minimal.

Now that window fix is actually great. Running repair, I love it. It really brings something extra and used in anger about it.

Nice one.

Johnny.

Cheers Johnny, we sometimes have to think out of the box at times when vexed with a problem.

I just hopes it works .

Off to the bench now to sort some more .

Hi folks, time for an update.

That air-scoop, well I fixed it place along the remaining one and left to set,

AS 4

The 4 amigos.

While those are drying , I looked at the turrets, and found these beauty's.

EJP 6

Also on the waist doors as well.

Seats next. Apparently The MK 1`s had bucket seats for the seat parachutes (thanks to LDS Modeler@Alan) and I got these.

Seats 1

The poser is what do I do?

Seats 2

I will muse over that one for now.

IP, yep, I am no longer a PE Virgin.

I cut my first piece today, and also shaved the detail off the kit IP.

IP 2

And dry fitted it.

IP 3

All looks good.

Well off to sort those EJP`s out.

All comments welcome.
