noelbarnes
I have had this in the stash for about 20 years and have always wanted to build it, but was never happy with the decals in the kit...old, yellow and brittle. So I purchased Starfighter decals to go with it. I was really keen to do it up in the green, white and black markings that I remember using on the Revell kit when I was a kid. However, the Starfighter decals were all I could find at the time and I have seen some done up online with these decals and they look great. I hope you enjoy following along. Obligatory box and product shot. The kit instrument panel looked a bit "Naff", so I decided to use Airscale etched bezels and instrument decals to improve this area. I am happy with the result, not totally accurate, but better than what was in the kit. I scraped away the moulded in seat harnesses and replaced them with home made items using tin foil and fuse wire. The cockpit sidewalls were nicely detailed and were painted with Alclad Aluminium and given a wash with Tamiya's Black panel line wash. A few fuse boxes were picked out in black and lightly drybrushed with grey. The cockpit tub was given the same treatment, but further dirt and grime was added with artist oil paints. Sadly, not a lot can be seen through the small opening once the fuselage is closed up.

noelbarnes
The kit goes together beautifully.Three coats of Model Masters Chrome Yellow for the wings and tailplanes. The engine was a bit tricky as the instructions were not overly clear as to where some of the pipework should go. There is some lovely detail on the wheel spats. I added aluminium tubing for the taller sight mount. A very enjoyable build so far.
(ex)Sgtrafman
Hey Noel That's looking the business mate. Did you apply the yellow over the primer or did you give it a another colour base coat first? Cheers Iain

I ended up doing three coats of the yellow, plus a final coat of yellow with a touch of red to help the colour match the decals. If I had white primer I would have used that instead, but am very happy with the outcome. Cheers Noel

colin
Very nice so far, Hasegawa's 1/32 kits, even their older ones are really very nice. no a lot parts count wise but some nice detail and usually a good fit
noelbarnes
I have masked up the yellow areas and painted the blue. I used Humbol 69 as a base coat for the final blue which was a home mix of Humbrol 69 and Model Masters Cobalt Blue. I will mask off the rudder next and spray it white ready for the red, white and blue decal. The Engine is now complete and was painted with Alclad Steel and Chrome for Lexan for the spinner. Getting closer to the fun part....decals.
noelbarnes
Here is some of the decaling process. These decals are great to work with...thin, tough, opaque, movable and setting beautifully onto the suface of the kit. Micro Sol is necessary so the decals sit over all the raised detail, but it works a treat. I love the bright colours all working together....the interwar period was a colourful time in American Aviation indeed.

noelbarnes
The latest update. There have been a few glitches along the way, but it is coming together. Decals a done, touch ups are also complete. Next will be another gloss coat and then the addition of all the smaller parts including more exhaust vents followed by rigging.

Pete in Lincs
I love those markings. Will there be a pilot? I had an idea for a display stand for the aircraft, just out of reach of a giant Gorilla finger (perspex rod between the two). Ignore me, probably time for my pills.

No pilot this time.....although I do like the idea of a Kong dio.
