janneman36
This will be my entry but first i am going to make some room on the shelf....... It is partial plastic parts and the hull and wings are of a composite material and that is a first for me .. I don't no what to fear first, the composite hull or the shear size!! greggles.w
Wow - ambitious! Unless someone brave tables the Spruce Goose this will be hard to beat for size!
JOCKNEY
Good lord, I have heard of this kit but not seen II before, I thought the only one in 1/72 was the Combat Models Vacform version. The ruler in the photo fooled me until I zoomed in and realised it wasn't a 30cm rule, that devious ! I think it's fair to say if size matters, you have it covered Good luck with the build, with you all the way cheers Pat 1

jrlx
Hi janneman36, Welcome to the GB! That's an impressive looking choice of subject. What's the composite material that you mentioned? Good luck for your build! Cheers Jaime

Cheers Jaime I believe the fuselage and wings on these A'Monster' kits are fibreglass reinforced with some sort of plastic or resin outer shell. TheBaron
Cor. What a whopper! You've plenty of time to save up for the paint.! 2
Paul J
Love it. Will have to watch progress on this one. I've got the CMR 1/144 one, which in itself for the scale is big, built and another waiting which might join this GB. In real terms I was fortunate enough to see them both for real, sitting on Sproat Lake Vancouver Island back in 2004.

Never had the chance to see one in the flesh a friend of my had a chance to sit in the cockpit once and he was deeply impressed by it!! 17 minutes ago, Bonhoff said: You could use it as a coffee table. Rob G
Having been very, very fortunate when I visited Port Alberni a number of years ago, I was given pretty close to free reign to wander around inside one of these. (Gotta love the relaxed Canuckistan attitude to that sort of thing. I promised not to break the plane and it was all good.) Mind blowing. Needless to say, I'm following along.
Mjwomack
Admittedly, I don't do floatplanes very often, but when I do, I go laaaaarge

janneman36
And look what i got in the mail today after a one and half month journey ( cheapskate fare taken on this one) Just in time for the group build, the book is the same as Steve Ginters original about the Mars (all pics in black and white) but there is an extra chapter provided with the story from Wayne Coulson and additional pics of the Coulson story (this chapter is in color!!) AlexN
Lovely aircraft! We get Coulson aircraft over here in Oz during the fire(fighting) season, but I suspect that they might be a bit delayed this year on account of the fires in Canada (we have personnel on secondment over there at the moment). Will be following this one with BIG (ha ha ) interest . Lucky it's not 1/48' eh? Cheers, Alex. 2
janneman36
Well finally started on some engine bits as these are plastic parts.. It is a Amodel quality so you have to do a little cleanup DSC_4653 DSC_4655 And this is where my cheapish diamond needle files come in handy, got them in a lowbudget supermarket but they last a long time. These things are responsible for most of the cleanup and costed me less then ten euro.... DSC_4648 DSC_4666 DSC_4647 DSC_4651 The engines are a bit of a funny construction with a spacing ring in the middle but everything has to be clear of flash and every part has it in some sort or another... Flash is alive !!! DSC_4653 DSC_4656 DSC_4659 The engines are not that great on detail but with the cooling blades in place nothing of it can be seen, the only thing is that you have to align everything correctly or else the prop assembly will be misaligned. At least the engines will look tha part from the front... jrlx
Great start, Jan! It's always good to take the first parts off the sprues and even the cleaning phase can be quite relaxing! Cheers Jaime

Cheers Jaime I was glad to have a start at it because i have been to busy lately nothing depressing but i have also a project for our ipms chapter wich is bigger than the Mars... But as you say it is relaxing, despite the flash a good cleanup will make it fit nicely as you can see
