Fashionably late to the party, I have acquired a Takom FV432 2/1 and hope to make a decent fist of it, reports I’ve read suggest it’s a nice kit to work with. I’ve added a Reveleri Series III Landrover to the stash as well, largely for sentimental reasons as my favourite vehicle I’ve driven to date, is the 1983 Series III 88" Landie that my family owned briefly in the early ‘90s.

The box art features a spectacularly lurid shade of IRR green which I will not be seeking to replicate on my model!

The obligatory unboxing shots, or, ooh, look at my new toys…

First the FV432

Quite a lot of plastic for what is really not a very big vehicle. Some nifty etched brass too, ripe for ruination at the shovel sized hands of 06/24. The odd brown bit is a suspension/track jig:

Next the Landie, this is a Revel boxing but I understand this and the Italeri kit share the same moulds. Horrid end opening box of course…

And finally the first extra. I’m not sure you can call it “aftermarket” when it came out before the other two, but the prehistoric Tamiya Pinkie includes some okish GPMGs, and poseable front steering, which I always prefer to the “fore and aft” look.

I’ve also splashed the cash for a range of Tankograd reference books and some Accurate Armour bits:

Old style fire extinguishers

Chieftain stowage bins

and

Proper Landie wheels and tyres

If I decide to go down the diorama route then more accessories may be wanted/needed.

Hello,

nice to see a FV432, will follow the WIP with attention and curiosity ;)

About the landrover, one of my dreams is to have one ... but so expensive here in France :o

Tonight I made a start on the 109" chassis, using the Tamiya Pinkie axles and springs:

I'm in two minds whether it was worth it - both kits are showing their age so there was some tedious cleaning up, and I don't think the workable steering works anymore (an errant drop of Tamiya Extra Thin has gummed up the works) although at least I have been able to turn the front wheels a little.

  • 11 months later...

Almost a year has slipped by with no progress, but this evening I dug this out of the pile of doom, wasted half an hour finding my modelling tools which had been spread to the four winds, and knuckled down.

At the recent air show at East Fortune, I was able to get some reference shots. Mrs 06/24 has made it clear that this is as far as nostalgia can go, and that any moves to acquire a 1:1 example will not be viewed favourably 😉
