Sharklets v Winglets

Recommended Posts

AFAIK there is no practical difference.

I believe the term 'sharklet' was coined by Airbus as a marketing gimmick based on the shape of some of their early experimental designs. (Which were rather more swoopy and shark-fin like than what eventually transpired.)

Likely also to dodge certain patents regarding blended winglets that belonged to another company...

The games we play...

Just different solutions to the same problem. Preventing the vortices from the wing tip rolling over to disturb the lift and increase drag. They cause said vortices to stream off the winglet/shark fin.
