Hi,

My interpretation of the photo shy LFG W, a floatplane version of the Albatros CI that LFG Roland were building under licence. Based at Lake Angern, now Engures, on the shores of the Gulf of Riga, during the second half of 1916. Last picture was taken in natural light to try and show the blue colour.

Sanger vacform Blackburn Iris completed in a mad rush and now i could have taken another week!

Oh well....glad it's finished anyway could do with something new on the go.

Vacforms can be challenging but mostly all you need is patience, sand paper and filler, having said that this is my first biplane vac and they are more difficult than monoplanes.

Nonetheless i'm happy with the result, the Aeroclub scarf rings are great but tested my eye sight to the limits.

This is my first GB and i have to say it hasn't dissapointed, there are some stunners and the variety has been particularly good, looking forward to more GB's as the year progresses.

Enough waffle, here's my five photos...

Here's my contribution; the 1/72 new tool Hasegawa Kawanishi H8K2 Emily, representing an aircraft of the 801st Naval Flying Group of the Imperial Japanese Navy:

The kit was built almost entirely OOB - it even included canopy masks for the main glazing though I did buy the Eduard mask set for the little fuselage windows, because I am very, very lazy. The kit transfers were used to represent the third option provided with the kit. The undersides were finished in Alclad Semi-matt Aluminum with the doped fabric parts represented using Citadel Runefang Steel; the uppersurfaces using Colourcoats ACJ01 IJN D1 Deep Green Black, with the doped fabric surfaces painted using the same colour mixed with a little ACJ18 IJN Interior Olive Green. The floats were rigged using Infini Lycra thread. A meandering build thread is here and a RFI post with these and some extra pictures is here

Cheers,

Stew

Here we go.

One little 1/72nd KP Piper Cub.

A pretty basic kit with surprisingly few vices.

Yes, it's pretty old, but it does make into a convincing Cub!

Home brew decals based on my deceased Uncles Escapade.

Just Google G-MCUB.

Basic build tread here.

Here's mine, Revell's 1989 boxing of Monogram's 1957 issue Grumman Hu-16 Albatross finished in US Coastguard markings for S/N 7240.

According to the Coastguard Aviation Association, S/n 7240 began it's career on 25th August 1961 based out of San Diego before moving to a number of different bases. She was detatched to NAS Quonset Point for 4 months in 1967 and would have worn the scheme of that time with a hi-vis orange nose. (I went for the later scheme she wore)

After 2 years in storage at Davis Monthan in the early 70's, she was overhauled and re-entered service at Cape Cod in July 1972 and then Miami and San Francisco among others. Her last flight was 10th August 1982 out of Cape Cod.

The build thread is here but to recap:

Kit: Revell 4280

Paints: White from Halfords spray can. All others by Revell Acrylic, brushpainted.

Decals: PrintScale Grumman Albatross 72-136

Extras: All rivets sanded off, panel lines rescribed. Basic interior added to cockpit. 20g weight in the nose.

Chance Vought Kingfisher. FN709 703 Naval Air Squadron FAA, HMS CIlicia Flight. Lindberg kit, brush painted with Xtracrylix and finished with Liquitex matt varnish. Transfers from an Aeromaster FAA part 2 sheet with the serial from a combination of the Airfix serial and some Modeldecal numbers. Out of the box apart from a little detail in the cockpits. Scrubbed up well for an old kit. The canopies are a bit cloudy but otherwise not a bad kit.

The Macchi M.C. 72 was an experimental seaplane designed by designer Mario Castoldi and built by the Italian aircraft company Macchi Aeronautica. The M.C. 72 held the world speed record for all aircraft for five years. On 23rd October 1934, while flown by Warrant Officer Francesco Agello the M.C. 72 set an average speed of 709.2 km/h (440.7 mph) which set a world speed record for piston engine-powered seaplanes that still stands.

Although designed to win the Schneider Trophy, it never took part due to delays associated with the complexity of the design.

This is the Smer kit of that record breaking aircraft MC 72 181 in 1/48 scale, not without challenges but I'm happy with result. Hope you like it, and thanks for all the support from everyone throughout this Group Build.

cheers Pat
