Spot of the Day Part 2

Recommended Posts

We were in a traffic queue behind a 205 the other week.

Somewhere up North, Leeds I think. The smell from it's

exhaust permeated the cab of our truck, phew!

You don't usually get that petrol smell nowadays.

Around 1:15 this afternoon in South Lincoln

in the space of about 5 minutes on the Newark road....

A Ford Falcon in red from about 1963 or 4.

A Small Buick, can't bring to mind the model name

or year but it's a badge engineered Chevy, 2 door.

A drop dead gorgeous BRG XK140. Yum!

Yesterday out on the fen roads near Boston. Of all things, a Porsche 356 in pale yellow. Very nice bodywork that looked original.

I would imagine it was on a post restoration shakedown run as it had bits of trim missing, including a door handle. On reflection I think it was LHD too.

We delivered a couple of casks to a house out there, the chap showed us into the garage, which contained a Bugatti replica in bare aluminium,

very skinny wheels and, a twin carb Triumph 2.5 straight six. Handling could be 'interesting' he said.

He also had a thing like an Argocat sixwheeler. This one though had a proper cab with steering wheel, mini engine & box and chain drive. Bought for a bit of fun, apparently.

This afternoon, North of Lincoln on a back road, a dark blue or black TR3 in race trim.

Rollbar on the back and no windscreen. Nice.

Heading towards Peterborough on the A47 from Wansford this morning was an old Citroen.

Vehicle Registration would help those who didn't know what it was.

It read "1974DS"

I compete in our state sprint series, and there are always interesting cars, from original shape Minis to Mitsubishi Evos and WRXs, Open wheelers, Porsches even a V10 BMW M5. I believe a couple of the minis this weekend had a Suzuki Hayabusa engine and a Honda Type-R engine! Sorry, didn't take pics of those.

Here are a couple of interesting cars from the sprint this weekend at Collie, a coal mining town in Western Australia.

Ford Capri Perana. A Mk II Capri with a huge American V8

And a Holden Torana. A bit like a Vauxhall Viva from the 1970s, but this is the GTR with (I think) a 3.3l straight 6

And if anyone's interested, here's an in-car video of me doing a personal best lap. It was a long day. 250km (155 miles) drive, racing, 250km drive home.

I saw Thomas the Tank Engine going down the M3 on Thursday!

On a low-loader obviously.

A Mark V Cortina the other day...couldn't tell if it was a banger or rolling restoration; every panel was a different colour.

Yesterday a pre-war Riley competition type with boat tail, and a lovely sounding Stag.

Cheers

This afternoon, Northbound on the A1 near Peterborough.

Mk 1 Cortina GT four door in white with a red stripe. Nice.

And, this morning, (17th) another Mk 1 Cortina, a 2 door this time.

Lowered and with a loud exhaust on the outskirts of Lincoln.

You've had the main feature, now for the trailers.

Well, two of them today. First one this morning

was carrying a yellow Hillman Imp with an E reg

plate and set up for what looked like rallycross.

This afternoon a trailer carrying a Chevy pick up in

grey primer, on an old black U.S. plate, from about

1952 at a guess. I'd say the chassis was bent as the

pickup bed looked wonky from the rear.

There's an old Austin maxi at the top of our road, I pass it daily, looking sorry for itself.

A Mish mash of rusted, original and replacement panels on it. Think it's been modified somewhat as it has racing bucket seats in the front, and a big exhaust on. Wonder what engine he's running in it?

Sitting outside the pub on a walk in the Test Valley:

That’s an Alfa Spider hidden behind in white.

Also a 1955 TR2:

I thought the thread had gone quiet, didn't know Part Two had started....!!

Anyway, lots of spots recently, don't recall them all, but one that sticks in the mind was last week, I gave way on a rounabout, in absolutely pouring rain, to a little red TR4 that was so dirty it must be a daily driver & also hasn't been cleaned for a good few months!

In contrast today, an absolutely immaculate Moggy Minor Traveller that looked completely standard but was in a sort of 'sandy mustardy beigey' colour that I've not seen on a Moggy before...

Saw a Mitsuoka Viewt in Crewe yesterday . It's a Nissan Micra modified to look like a Mk 2 Jaguar that's shrunk in the wash .

Is that what they are...saw one locally last week - absolutely hideous thing!!
