The Land Rover. Rather rudimentary, I agree with John's comment above.

And shouldn't the cab rear window be oval(ish).

Someone did a modded version of it on here some time ago.

I seem to remember that the comment was that it's not quite right for an

RAF Rover of that time period or some such.

 

BTW, favourite RAF land rover story.

Night vision binoculars, Land rover, Rabbits. Hmm, Chase mode on!

I've been looking at Adey's post of his Bloodhound and his Landrover looks nice. Early Mk I tan nose and 'display' starter rockets so I've changed those but other bits are an inspiration.

Ratch did a couple back in 2008 - they look nice but no closeups.

I did think I'd tart the 'rover up a bit and I've pinched some decal master images from the web for the number plate etc. The available space is tiny:

I'm not sure I'll use the '2' but the plate and roundel, probably.

To see just how rudimentary the kit is I've dry fitted things:

 

 

 

 

so prepared, but not progressed. I think the internals are probably out. Might be fun though. Hmmm.

I don't think the bench seat and dashboard would be too hard to replicate using thick plasticard and Milliput. Gear stick could be done with wire or stretched sprue. The steering wheel might be a little more tricky.

That stick in the mud Rover is of a later time

than yours. What we used to call ParaRovers.

Towing limit 3 1/2 tons but we used to shift

Wessex & Puma's (over 6 tons) around with them.

Mike Grant did a nice job on the Rover in one of his articles (you can see a pic of it if you google Mike Grant Land Rover images but if you click on it it has the dreaded PB deleted).  He even made a decal for the grill on the front.

Hello Ced. I would just superdetail this one  a bit ( as you did/ do). Nothing expensive is required for this one. You have all in the household, which  will go into the bin normally.  I have an old Matador tanker kit, which is great after all these years, but needs clear plastic windshields etc.. Flightpath did or do a massive etch upgrade for it, but vey expensive. These old were more detailed than some of the newer ones I've seen. Cheers

Sad to say a search of the stash turned up no Land Rover steering wheels (surprise). Got close with the tractor from the Airfix Sterling:

 

 

but it's not a three-spoker. Driver was tempting but no, the internals will have to go undone. Sorry chaps.

In terms of artistic licence; Land Rovers last a long time.

 

Yours is just a (slightly modified in the field) series one, that they had to use as, on that day, all the series II and later were in the repair shop. This was the morning following a large scale, very enthusiastic  rabbit chasing exercise 🐰 .

PS: Clear plastic packaging, like that found on e.g, disposable shavers, Tamiya scribers etc., is superb for making little windows .

A friend tried to wade his Landrover. Needed a four tonner to pull it out.

I know pretty much nothing about the Bloodhound, so loving this.  The Gosling booster rockets look familiar, though, and some Wiki-fu told me that they were also used by the Mk.1 Sea Slug missile, which accounts for it. 

 

In service til 1991, eh?  Hmmm.  Even more glad that the Cold War didn't turn hot in the late-80s!

Sorry to ask, but can you elaborate as to which kit we did an expensive upgrade for?

 

We have never done anything in 72nd/76th for the Bloodhound, Land Rover or Matador. We do a Flightpath 32nd Bloodhound kit and Firing Line kits/sets for Landrovers in 35th But that is all.

Thanks TT  The Bloodhound Missile Preservation Group's site is interesting, but they're more focussed on the Mk II so the photos aren't quite right. @bigVern1966 posted some great details on the colours and, in the next post, the differences between the two versions. Very useful. I'm beginning to increase the amount of 'artistic licence' in this build!

Thanks John  Reminds me of a time when my Ford Escort failed to negotiate a flooded road and started to float! Easy to push it out of the water, especially after an offer from a passing trucker!

Thanks Crisp  Glad you're enjoying it - I hadn't realised just how many of these things were deployed.

 

 

As mentioned above I've increased the 'artistic licence' on this build, basically to avoid everything being Drab. The Rover and trailer are going to be RAF Blue and the launcher Drab. I've also realised from @adey m's great post that the Erks would have been in overalls - brown ones. I've also realised that the Humbrol 96 I use for uniforms (correct) isn't the same RAF Blue Grey that was used to paint vehicles and aircraft. I shall ignore this as there doesn't seem to be a good acrylic for this. Or maybe darken the H96 a bit. Or satin varnish it? Hmmm.

 

I'm beginning to regret using the Humbrol enamel wash on the launcher. It's still not dry and its shiny:

That'll need a matt coat now. Rats.

 

The inside of the Rover has been painted and some bits of acetate cut for the glass:

 

 

It's now been glued together, trying to reduce the gaps that aren't there on the real thing:

 

 

Going to need some clean up, as expected. 

 

I've also removed the trailer parts from the sprue and cleaned them up:

Hello, I might be wrong, but I thought there was one for this one:

I'm sure that it was announced in a catalogue by aerospezial here in Bielefeld in the end of the '90. But maybe for a future release. This was where I bought your Anson , B-24 and Harrier detail sets. Very comprehensive, but also expensive. So this means no negative statemant as they look high quality on the frets. I still have some of the catalogues, but not here in Münster. So I will watch at them next time, when I visit my Mum. Sorry, I didn't want to put wrong information on here as you must know what you have produced.

I found it best to glue the parts a bit at a time to try to overcome the poor molding and warpage. Getting there.

Not the launcher - that still needs attention when it's dry (getting there).
