Are those code letters supposed to be Dark Sea Grey?

Oooh, me sir, sir, I know that (I think)...

According to my Kits World decals the 'Sea Grey' idents were used between April 1939 and December 1940.

Not often I get to add some reference stuff - well chuffed :D

Ouch!

Not a German Shepherd Dog then? Too Nachist huh?

Anway, not to be out-researched on my own build of pressure I went in search of the depths of my old research files, far away from electrickery and dispooters

I unearthed this old cache

P1010096.jpg

Even plenteous data for targets too

And this lot

P1010097.jpg

As you can see they were all well thumbed 'files' and these were not all there is either (can you see the preliminary draughts of my home brewed plans for the first Sherpa I scratchbuilt many years ago, over there on the top right)

Voila! Ici!

P1010098.jpg

Treasure trove

Which incidentally confirms Mr B's grey codes for this era discovery

And talking about discoveries

Can anyone suggest reasons I would have large scale plans for the de H Mosquito?

P1010099.jpg

P1010100.jpg

Or even more unusually this

P1010101.jpg

?????

Anyway I think these plans are for the recycler, I'm not going to use them any time

Ooo, that's a bit low!!!

In those days they were all tail draggers....

Those plans, well worth framing I'd say.

Just get the right sized frames at a car boot.

Umm, but shouldn't the 'Sea Grey' be of the medium variety....??

Can you detail in a bigger scale @perdu ?!

This is an original Fairey model of their then freshly announced Gannet AEW.3, it is made of solid hardwood and is beautifully made.

The condition has suffered, and my intention is to reconstruct the tailplane trailing edges, fin top and various other small areas that have taken a knock.

I also need to make a new spinner and a windscreen and canopy, which I will try and hot form from some acetate sheet and a buck.

The paint has delaminated all over which is a real shame, the choice is to leave as is or strip and try and faithfully reproduce the colours and scheme.

It is pictured here with original Fairey scale drawings and paint directives for newly produced AEW.3s, the model happens to be the same scale as the drawings, and also the same aircraft, XL449 the first production Gannet AEW.

It is also seen with an original photo depicting the model ready for display for an SBAC show (guessing 1958).

Daughter shown for scale (thinking around (1:24th)!

It's a bit scruffy now, but a unique and treasured item.

Hope you don't mind the interlude, just keeping the Gannet fire burning!

I just realized I didn't say a word about this!!!    :wall::tmi:

As it's already been said, this is a piece of history and you're very lucky to have it.

I would leave her as it is. You may add spinner, propeller and rudder, but I would paint them a slightly different shade of sky, to differ from the original model, that I'd leave untouched.

Your daughter is very pretty and seems to know exactly what to do with her!!!

"mmmhhhhh...seems to be a flying machine!!! Ishould find out...!!!"

Are you going to build the next airworthy 'peoples' Mosquito in your garage? Prepare to move the Midget!

And the same ambitious scheme for an Avro 780, 748MF or HS Andover C.1 (whichever term is in fashion right now?!), not sure that I would bin those plans mind.

Ah, grazie Massimo!

I think I will take the advice of the board, err on board.  Won't restore the Gannet but will probably add a canopy, spinner and rudder which can all be removed.

Update time

Andover plans have (will have) a new and happily willing home, sorted

Mosquito needs new home soon

I am too old to harbour new plans for new BIGGER models, I will most likely fade away still building in gentlemanly fashion

My interests, (notwithstanding models dropped on me by capricious fortune) no longer have WW2 in focus either so these rather handsome but unverified plans need a new lover

End of, really

Unless you're unwise enough to ask for either ice or water (or anything else!) in your whisky!

or water

A maltmaster once told me that a small drop of water was recommended as it added to the experience by releasing the aroma. Don't drown it though!  Ice..no thanks.

'or anything else'  Irn Bru I'm told is quite refreshing with a whisky added.

Sadly as I can't touch the stuff anymore I'll never know.
