Chris Craft 1:8 Scale Fittings

I'm having a break from my recent binge on 1:8 aircraft models and have gone nautical. I'm building Dumas' kit #1234, the 1:8 Chris Craft 1940 Barrel Back Runaround. The brightwork components in the kit aren't really up to snuff so I'm looking to get some better replacements.

 

However, I'm brand new to the nautical side of things and have found surfing for the things is not simple as the parts available are often vague about scale and size. Does anyone know of a vendor who does an upgraded brightwork pack for this kit or offers a range of similar parts in 1:8 scale?

 

I've found a bunch in the US who do some likely looking kit, but in brass, and I'd rather not get into the electroplating business if I can help it.
