Latinbear
The organisers of this year's Biggin Hill Air Festival decided to hold a spotters' day for the arrivals ahead of the start of yesterday's two day show. Some 120 people attended which made for a rather more relaxed atmosphere than RIAT! For a very reasonable £15 for the day we were located close to the south-westerly runway threshold and also had access to the taxiway next to the Signature business jet terminal. We also received a complimentary "100 years of Flight at Biggin Hill" cap which was a nice touch. A sheet of arrivals and departures had been promised but I didn't get one or see anybody else with one. In addition to the regular general aviation movements we were treated to departures of the Red Arrows and Typhoon presumably for the display at Eastbourne and the Gripen put on a practice display as well. The Czech helicopter contingent sneaked in while I was focusing on the Typhoon. Memo to self: get a scanner. In the mid-afternoon the rain hit hard with hailstones and followed by torrential rain. A big thank you to the organisers for arranging what was a very enjoyable day. 1. This Spitfire was kept busy with passenger flights all day. 2. 3. 4. 5. The CN295 only stopped for a brief period. 6. 7. 8. Taxying out for take-off. The ramp was raised shortly after this shot was taken. 9. 10. 11. Couldn't help but notice the camera trained on us. 12. 13. 14. 15. Both Tucanos were destined for the static display. 16. 17. 18. Taxying out for the practice display. 19. 20. 21. 22. If I had a scanner I might have been able to understand why the Ram Air Turbine was out. 23. The northern end of the airfield. The hail and rain hit a few minutes later. 24. The southern end of the airfield. It felt like being the filling in a rain sandwich. 25. 26. There is more colour on the pilot's helmet than the entire aircraft. 27. 28. 29. That's it. Thanks for looking. 7
Alpha Delta 210
Thanks for posting these. Nice to see the Czech types. Certainly looks like a well-kept secret for a very reasonable £15. The clouds look rather ominous!

I think the day was organised at relatively short notice and that in turn probably meant that it didn't get the attention that some other such days get. Alpha Delta 210
Hopefully they will do something similar next year (and attract some more interesting types...)
Simon382
Some great pics, thanks for posting. Just gor home from the show which I thought was excellent. My high lights were the Hind (stunning display and colour scheme) and the Patrioulle de France with an amazing display. Well done to all concerned
