Dazzio
Hello all, As I was involved in the last F-15 STGB (wow has it really been 4 years?!), I thought I would join in with this one. I have been in bit of a rut recently with my model building, I've still got an Bear, Typhoon and Horsa to finish yet. But, after seeing the builds started by parip and azureglo, I have been inspired to give these a go. I'm not 100% sure on what scheme I will be going for yet... I have a few to choose from. I think I had the aggressor scheme for the last STGB?... I also have these... The kits I shall be using... The two top kits are from LS and are F-15A models, the bottom left is the wonderful Revell F-15E and I have about 12 of them (seriously) and the bottom right is the Dragon/DML version, I have about 3 of them. The resin goodies you can see in the top middle are two F-15A cockpit sets with an F-15E cockpit set and two exhaust can sets from RetroWings. I was going to order more, but the website will not let me order anything. I have sent in a question asking why but not had any responses yet. I also have the Res-IM resin wheel replacements and Brengun vacform canopy as well as the Shelf Oddity PE set for the F-15. Going all in on this one, however I am not going to guarantee that I will get any done. I am planning to make an F-15B ACTIVE alongside these ones, but this is one from a computer game thus not allowed to be included in the rules of the GB. However, I will include the build of that as well if anyone is interested and I am allowed, seeing as it isn't the main build. Picture below... The fuel tank will need to be replaced with a gun pod, like the F-4 carried on the centre line station which I have in an Arii weapon set (I have a lot of stuff in 1/144). Now sure on what decals/version I will build first however. I am tempted by the Digi-camo, 23 Sqn and the White Dragon set. Any advancements? I'll probably be starting at the weekend as I await bits to turn up. Kind Regards, Dazz
helium
Welcome Dazz! 😀 Looks like this F-15 STGB is the right thing for you! 😀 You have some nice decals there. I personally like those JASDF Eagles in the blue/grey/(white) camouflage. At some time I want to build on of these (in 1/72) Cheers Holger
azureglo
Hey D Are you doing any of these wheels up? I've managed to lose my nosewheel , it turns out 25 psi was too much for my bluetack! BTW did you see this? I got the DXM /172 set specifically to do these JASDF aggressors. Cheers A

I do like the aggressor colours, however it's all the stencils that put me off, even in 1/72 they'd be a pain let alone 1/144! We shall see what happens and how well I do with the others 11 hours ago, azureglo said: Hey D Are you doing any of these wheels up? Cheers A Hey azureglo, I wasn't planning to, but you have a PM inbound. That's a great video btw, however it looks likes it's been slowed down a little bit?? I dunno... I think the decal set i have for the aggressors are the same ones as the 1/72 set, just twice as big, probably more stencils as well. I look forward to seeing that built So, I've done some work today, still waiting for the shelf oddities stuff to turn up however. I've done some work on both the F-15A's. Please see below... The top half has the bits I need to remove in black, the bottom half has had it's bits removed. Sorry for the crappy picture, this is under magnification in low light for something that is no bigger than 2.5 inches in real life. So after an hour or so of cutting/sanding/test fitting I was left with the below. The grey one was the second one I done, therefore a better fit all around. I am hoping that the canopies will hide most of the holes, however I will use some filler on them. Hopefully I can get some paint on these tomorrow. Feed back as always is gratefully accepted. azureglo
Fine work, Dazzio (and major thanks). The video is slo-mo but it so beautiful to see how these huge fighters can be so graceful. Perhaps its me (& Mungo) but F-15s are such elegant planes compared to the F-22/35 that are replacing them. The JASDF schemes seem to really show them at their best. I'm looking forward to seeing a 144 specialist like you at work, I was inspired by a blog called Ant Sized Man, these little miniatures looking stunning when you see them finished to a high standard. Dazzio
You're welcome azureglo. It is a very nice video, there is a few of these videos floating about, you just have to know where to look. I've just had a thought, I have a reference book on the F-15J. Yay! Have you ever heard of the Israeli F-15 that lost its starboard wing in a collision? The Japanese do have some interesting colour schemes. I know exactly what you mean about the Raptor/Lightening. However the JMSDF versions look good! Thank you for the vote of confidence, but I wouldn't call myself a "1/144 specialist", however I would call myself a "glutton for punishment!" lol 😁. Oh aye, I know of Ant Sized Man, you've probably seen my name crop up on his blog a few times. I know that Ian stopped making Gundams and 1/144 models a few years back and went into OO gauge trains, least that's what his blog suggests. I've not checked it in a while however. I did do some more work today, however I also burned my right hand so the work isn't upto my standards (I tried), so no pictures until I'm happy with the work. I've started work on a Strike Eagle too Kind Regards, Dazz

Dazzio
So I done some more work on the Eagles, I know I keep on calling these "F-15A's" but they will be "F-15J's"... just ignore me. I found an old source of reference I had forgotten about. Quite a few reference pictures in there and it's for the J model, so quids in for me. Plus I get to look at the centre-fold of Ren Ishikawa, a very pretty lady. So like I said I have done some more work on the cockpits. I started work on the F-15E cockpit as well, but that isn't a priority right now. I mixed up some paint to what I thought looked right for the IP and it looks more Soviet era than JASDF... I'll see what I can do about toning it down at a later date. The buttons and such I had to do with a sharpened cocktail stick and dab the paint on. Best I can do, I might revisit these later. See what you think below. I need to put a wash into the back compartment, doubt you'll see any of it after the canopy goes on however. Oh and yes, I do own massive clothes pegs Feedback as always is welcomed, good or bad. Kind Regards, Dazz
azureglo
Hey D, any progress on these fine looking birds? A
Dazzio
Hey azureglo, Not much I am afraid, really really haven't had the time. I have managed to get the birds together. This is as far as I have gotten, I need to do some smoothing out and filling in. Shouldn't take me long, but thats usually my final last words. Most of time has been taken up by this little 1:1 project... That is my modelling shed, it has been emptied and dismanteld and moved back by 2-ish Meters... not an easy job I can tell you! The shed is in the final stages of being put back together now then I can start putting "my crap" back in there as my parents have dubbed it. Oh the shed is at my parents until I get my own place with a garden btw. I'm still waiting on the Shelf Oddities bits, only taken 2 weeks by post thus far... I think they are lost. Hoping to have an update "soon". Kind Regards, Dazz
