Spookytooth
Yep , after a long break, we are back. The good lady has finally decided to get back into the hobby. So, she had a look through her stash (yes, she has her own stash.) After looking at a couple, pulled this one out. She thought that it would be nice to build side by side with us. Also , she said that it will be for our 21st birthday next March, a little something from the two of us personally made. The Spitfire is basic with less than 30 parts, the Tiffie a few more. She has taken on the Spitfire (she likes Spitfires) so I have the Tiffie. As it comes with a double display stand they will be wheels up and office shut so to speak. Without further ado here is what has been done today. Various parts cleaned up ready for priming. And the pilots Bill and Ben Still a little cleaning up to do on Ben. That`s it for now. Simon and Rose. And NO, I have not forgotten about the Rhino I am building, bits of that build will be done along the road. 10

Spookytooth
Thanks Giemme and Ced, it feels good to be back at the bench not just looking at it. Things are busy but will try to post some pics tonight of the build. Simon and Rose.

Spookytooth
Cheers Gremlin , the Lady Rose has enjoyed it too. A little update. As I had a little time on my hands I did a bit more to the Tiffie. Nose cannon added. Also some of the other bits, the canards, control stick and the wing tip pods. The UC Doors are shall we say ..... Starboard side. Port side. Me thinks that those doors will have to go. Scratch building here I come , damn. Got the kids over tomorrow so not much will get done. All comments welcome. Simon. PS Rose says Hi.
stever219
The fit, or should I say lack of fit, of those doors I'd dreadful. Any chance you can back them with some pkasticard and then fill and sand to get a more acceptable profile? The Spitfire mouldings somehow don't seem so bad.
CedB
Agreed - terrible mouldings. I guess, like a lot of kits, they're expecting you to build it wheels down. Good luck sorting it out, I'm sure you'll beat it into submission!
giemme
Definitely not a great fit for those U/C doors ... I wouldn't know if it's better totally scratchbuilding them or trying to fill in and rescribe the existing ones ... Looking forward to what you come up with Cheers to you and Lady Rose
Spookytooth
Thanks Stever219, Ced and G. You are all right, those doors were not to be I think. So with a bit of bravery and trusty tools I removed the main doors. Not too much damage there. The other doors are too firmly fixed, so I will have to work my way around them, possible use of plastic card and strip and good old filler. We had a great time with the kids yesterday so nowt else has been done. As always . All comments welcome. Simon. 3
giemme
Wow, lots of bravery there, but you came out successful Looking forward to the scratch built parts Ciao Edited August 18, 2017 by giemme
Spookytooth
Thanks G, a bit of good old fashioned butchery. So, replace the main doors. Firstly I made templates. Tools for the job. The old doors covered in tape. Removed tape and placed on stock card 0.5 mm. Trimmed and bent into shape. And a test fit, again. Not a bad fit when I hold it in place so I am happy about that. Just the other side to do now, then work out the other parts to replace. The nose door does not look to bad a fit at the moment. Well a bit more to do tomorrow so will post then. Hopefully with an update on the Spitfire. All comments welcome. Simon.
giemme
Nice going, Simon Looking forward to the next instalment Ciao
Spookytooth
Thanks again G. The outer door on the port side was a pig. Too well stuck to remove without causing any damage. So I decided to fill the lower portion. Laid some tape across it and drew around it. Then pace tape on stock card 0.5 mm and cut around. Then dry fitted. It fits better than it looks, because there will have to be some sanding (probably). Thats it for now, see what the good lady wants now. All comments welcome. Spookytooth
Another update... Trimmed the remnants of the vertical part of the doors flush. Then cut a small length of 3 mm / 4 mm struct and filed it to appropriate shape. This should give something for the doors to close on. Then held in place with some thick gel C/A UV Activated. And here it is with the pretty light on. All that needs to be done now is the upright bits of the doors. More card!!!!! All comments welcome. Simon. Alas no work on the Spitfire today.
CedB
Good progress Simon, you're certainly mastering those doors

Spookytooth
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Gents. Back to the bench quickly . The upright parts of the doors. Cut some stock card 0.2 mm. to shape. Then for height. Held in place with a bit of Blue Tac. Before trimming down. Just got to repeat that the over side. Hope to get more done over the weekend. All comments welcome. Simon.

Spookytooth
OK, a quick up date. Continuing on with the UC doors. The step on the o door was filled and the upright glued in place The bit of card sticking up was just to hold it in place, the outer flap? was copied in the same fashion as the main doors. The other side`s upright was then glued as well. Back to the other side again and the "sunken door". Traced the upper portion of the door the same way and glued into place. Before hitting it with some Green Stuff. Going to leave that to dry for now and see how it looks after a bit of sanding. That`s it for the moment. All comments welcome.
