JackG
I'd praise anyone that can correctly pick colours from b/w photos. I gave up on this type of 'guesswork' after trying to determine Italian flag colours on a captured vehicle, because it turned out the green appeared darker than the red in the b/w photos - and in the process would reverse the Italian flag. Wartime photos are great for determining camou shapes and patterns, but not so for colour unless it is combined with the knowledge of documents that stipulated the colours to be used. Since Kursk was a summer operation (July and August) and occurred in the countryside, lush with grasses and other vegetation, I'd have to say green. There is some descriptions found elsewhere stating both of the Ferdinand units added green camouflage (in differing patterns) to the base dark yellow. The 653rd battalion is further described to have added brown outlines surrounding the green on some vehicles. http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/thread/1133876123 regards, Jack
