825 Posted August 7, 2017 Share Posted August 7, 2017 (edited) I have a few things on the go at the moment but in a moment of madness I lifted this out of the stash. And thought I'm sure I can knock this together before the end of the build and finish everything else off as welll. And build something for the Radial engine GB too. In between being busy at work and the rugby season starting you can see I've plenty of time. But let's get stuck in. The moulds are at least 40 years old as I remember buying enough of these on my honeymoon 40 years ago. It's useful to have these reminders to fix dates. It's classic Airfix with reasonable moulding and detail, albeit a bit chunky. There are options for the gun to be in either the towed or action mode and there are some moveable parts which although compromise the crispness of detail are not too bad. There is a little flash but nothing that can't be dealt with, with a few swipes of a sanding stick. I'll build it OOB and use the kit transfers. I may add a windscreen from clear plastic card or packaging but that's about it. Airfix' plastic does glue up well and the fit is really positive. A little bit of sanding or scraping is needed to tidy things up. Regards, Adrian I know the feeling. Also this was a later Airfix AFV and it is a bit more detailed, as well as having a slightly different approach. So if you are familiar with the older kits it's not quite the same approach. Mind you, I do recall the early Airfix kit instructions in text which itemised the parts. Who remembers 'Affix cockpit floor (1) into starboard fuselage (2) side'? I learned a lot of the terminology in my formative years. Trunnions, idler wheels, drive sprockets being just a few. I think I lost some education when Airfix went the way of all other kit makers by introducing schematic instructions. A little more to go, but a journey now to the paint shop for a quick tidy and coats of paint. 825 Posted August 20, 2017 Author Share Posted August 20, 2017 (edited) Wheels on the tractor. Slight twist on the front wheels to give a bit of life. Obviously need a bit of paint to touch up. However when putting the wheels on the gun trailer, disaster! I made it the wrong way round with the front and rear suspensions transposed, and the cross pieces folded the wrong way. Taken apart a bit will have to sit and have a think before taking apart further. Airfix's plastic cements really well. Usually good but when you need to take things apart, it's a challenge. Stupid schoolboy error, should have looked at the instructions a bit more carefully. Now fixed and the wheels on, alebeit needing some further paint. Could probably benefit from from some dry brushing to pull everything together but I thin I'll finish here as I've a lot of other stuff on the go. Will post a few more images in the gallery later.
