exdraken
Hi everybody, After much anger over my photobucket account, I finally decided to actively participate again on BM. I therefor opened a flickr account hope that will master flickr soon, and that we do not have similar problems with them in due course! very frustrating!! So, although modeling time is at a premium at the moment (kids, kids, kids, kids, and work) and I really want to finish my F-111C and MiG-25 soonest!!! I also promised to take part in this GB here... late entry, hopefully a not too challenging, but still interesting enough kit and topic! ESCI Mirage 2000 C kit (updated version with the correct, production fin) FCM decals Neomega resin cockpit Eduard PE and masks maybe more in the future will be started as soon as possible! anything to watch out for on this kit? Wez
All I know is that it's one of the earliest kits of the type. The original boxing representing the prototype. I don't know whether the moulding in this box has been altered to production standard. That said, I'm sure you can improvise, overcome and adapt. So good to see another Mirage 2000 in the GB, such a good looking jet! Welcome to the GB.

I know I have to fill the panel lines on the nose, as it is molded as the prototype, i. e. without radar. the fin was changed to production shape! Peru's Mirages are quite early ones... so resin cockpit parts look very nice! Edited August 5, 2017 by exdraken
exdraken
a productive weekend!! new kit started, flickr mastered?, PE cut, resin dust generated, filler applied and sanded..... the prototype nose need filling and re-scribing the radar cone demarcation line. the shape is quite ok I think, compared to Revell-Monograms offering.... the nozzle itself has nice outer detail, the best out of the box of any Mirage 2000 kit the afterburner section on the other hand strongly remind me of the Academy F-111..... non existent at all.... the Eduard PE is very extensive and greatly improves on all the necessary areas!! fits nicely the same goes for the always impressive Neomega parts
Jabba
That Eduard engine is certainly an improvement over the kit offering. Like the work done to represent an actual aircraft rather than a prototype. Good luck with the rest of the build.
Antoine
I've a few close-up pics from this beauty. It's a French B, but you never know, some might help, so feel free to ask.
Wez
Exdraken, what a great start to your build, agree with Jabba, that exhaust makes the world of difference. I like the look of the NeOmega cockpit, I'm sure it will look superb once painted, I've always liked their stuff but find the instructions less than helpful for the most part. @Antoine thanks for sharing your pictures of the B, I have to ask, are those GRP repair patches on the radome?

Romeo Alpha Yankee
Nice work with the etch, I must ask.... how did you get the afterburner can so nicely round?
exdraken
Thanks everyone! @Antoine: photos are always welcome! I'd be especially in need of photos of M2000s without the Spiral? (The ones on the wong root trailing edge I mean) ECM equippment. Early on Peruian ones seem to not have them... same goes for the tail extension fairing ones.... Your two seater is not by cgance a very early one? No? @TrojanThunder: The metals behaved itself very nicely! Just rolled it around an Xacto handle Edited August 8, 2017 by exdraken

Only this B. 1 hour ago, exdraken said: Your two seater is not by cgance a very early one? No? Goood question! The bird is 527, so a Mirage 2000B S5 with RDI radar and M53P2 engine. The lattest batch, in fact...
exdraken
goodies, not sure yet what to use! 2 types of outer wing pylons... I guess the ones without the DDM will be correct for an early model what bombs would Peruian Mirages use? french or US ones? MK-82s or SAMP250? I need to source pylons as well.....! is there a jammer in there? looks a bit void.... http://www.defensa.pe/forums/showthread.php/1812-Mirage-2000-P-DP-FAP/page536 Edited August 10, 2017 by exdraken
exdraken
the Magic launch rails look a bit different.... the resin wheels seem to be based very much on the kit parts.... any improvement at all? I also found a resin tank from Eduard: the kit tanks is resemling much more a F/A-18 tank with fins....
Mr B
Looks good and nice addition to the party Lots of aftermarket there................ rgds
exdraken
some overdue update: the neomega pit fought a bit, but maybe not the best idea from my side to combine PE and resin painting of the pit also needs some more improvement..... the afterburner section with some metal paint: soon to be closed up! exdraken
some updates: fuselage closed, wings added I have to say that the fit is very good actually!, also the intakes are not problematic I learned meanwhile that the ESCI ERTL M2000 has one specific problem area not easily correctable... the wing sweep/ leading edge angle is too steep, i.e. the same as with Mirage III models, whereas the M2000 has less win sweep... directly compared to "proper" models like Heller and Revell! it is noticable....well! the Neomega cockpit entered finally, somehow i have better fit in memory with this company! The IP coaming / HUD section was especially weird... whatever, looks ok now! I am also not sure why the ejection seat is much too high .... do I have to cut detail of to make it sit deeper?
Wez
You're making great progress on this, I'm not surprised that you've had some fit issues with the cockpit, this is my experience with resin replacement cockpits in general, there is often much fettling required to make them fit and I for one always worry about losing detail or making things structurally unsound in the process The NeOmega stuff is beautifully detailed though! Looks like you'll soon be ready for paint, keep up the good work!

Jabba
Looks a bit sinister with all those pylons on, lots of weapons to be carried.
Graeme H
Loving how you are going with this I guess because the kit is an older one, but stunned at the amount of aftermarket available for this And those pylons really do set it off
