Flag_overlord
I'm currently building two of Revell's 1/144 Apache-Ds. One is going to be the US Army, the other the Netherlands version. US Army will have some of the kit weapons replaced with mix of Retrokit's fuel pods and ShelfOddity Mavericks .... not sure yet how I'll load out the Netherlands. Work so far: Cockpit tubs assembled/painted, engines partly assembled (I'll add the frontmost bit when I add the engines to the fuselage so that I know I've put it in the right place): IMG_20170716_205224 by Stephen North, on Flickr Close up of tub: IMG_20170716_205306 by Stephen North, on Flickr Tubs and control panels painted and decalled (had to use the instructions for the 1/48 to figure out what went where!), please note sewing thread for seatbelts. Some are a bit long, but hey... Flag_overlord
Forgot the obligatory scale shots of cockpit tub with tin of paint and ruler.... Thanks for that, I'm finding it a tad small. Out of curiosity - can I ask which part of Wales as I'm Swansea?

Flag_overlord
Bit more work done ... front struts added (instructions say do this later, but I decided to it earlier as easier to deal with any fit/levelling problems: IMG_20170801_183735 by Stephen North, on Flickr Painted inside by the struts, the recommended paint (Revell 46) is way too olive. Bit more research shows there is a US Helo Drab paint out there, but for only 2 kits at this scale... managed to control the obsessive detail side of me. Research suggests Humbrol 32 or 66 may be OK... experimenting tonight! Most of the external bits added, last few going on tonight, hopefully! Flag_overlord
Not posted for a while but quite a bit more done. Humbrol 66 won out as the colour of choice. Guns added (done primarily in Humbrol Metalcote gunmetal); tyres done using Tamiya rubber black. Helicopters selected for USArmy & Netherlands variants: IMG_20170814_143312 by Stephen North, on Flickr IMG_20170814_143345 by Stephen North, on Flickr Didn't realise how out of focus the second photo was .. will do a better one later. Thinking it needs some wire between the gun and the helicopter... will think about that one.. The grey thing behind the 2 helicopter is Retrokit's external fuel tank ... going on the US Helicopter. Not sure how I'm going to load out the Netherlands one yet ... waiting for ShelfOddity's Sidewinders to come.

I've had to leave a few traces of sprue stub on the things that come out of the engines for fear of breaking them. Thanks for your encouragement!

Yours is looking really good however. looking forward to seeing more. I've got a few blackhawks, those fuel tanks might be perfect. Kind Regards, Dazz Hi Dazz, Thanks for the encouragement, I'm having fun (?) trying to get the other fins on the Maverick at the moment, and I've still got at least 2 sidewinders to do... The fuel tanks come in packs of four, I'll have some left (they are designed for use on Apaches and UH-60s. I've promised someone else first refusal, but if he doesn't want them, do you want me to let you know? (I won't be contacting him until the builds are complete though..) Dazzio
I have seen the Mavericks from Shelf Oddities and where put off, I dont think they'd last long with me. I do have many Mavericks from different manufactures in my stash, think the best ones is probably the ones you get in the Revell 1/144 F-18D or the A-10. Sidewinders are pretty good from anywhere really, except the early Dragon kits, avoid them like the plague! Thank you for the Retrokit link, for some reason I can't order from them! I've bought loads of bits from them before, however the website now says that they can't ship to me... I'm waiting on the webmaster to get back to me on that one. It would be great to have second refusal on those tanks if possible? Of course I will pay shipping and what-have-not. Kind Regards, Dazz

Kind Regards, Dazz Hi Dazz, Think I know what you mean about the Mavericks - the carpet monster has had enough of the really small end tailfins to keep it happy for a while! I'll let you know ASAP about the tanks ...
