DaveJL
Hello all, Here is my first entry for this GB - Revell's 1/48 F-15E marked as 89-0487 from the 335th Fighter Squadron, during Operation Inherent Resolve in 2016. This jet has the distinction of getting the F-15E's only air to air kill, dropping a GBU-10 on an Iraqi Mi-24 in February 1991. It is also the only F-15E to date to have logged 10,000 hours of flying time. Kit (hiding in an Academy box): I'll be using a lot of parts from a left over Academy kit - Sniper pod, antennae etc. Extras: Authentic Decals, Pavla seats and Eduard Small Diameter Bombs. I'll be loading the jet with the SBD down the centre line, 3x GBU-38's, 4x GBU-12's, 3x AIM-120's, 1x AIM-9 and 2x fuel tanks. All armament, bar the SBDs, will be from the Academy kit. This load is based on several images i've seen online: 3x AIM-120 GBU-12 - 7th picture down SBD on the centre line The last picture above will be what i'll base my weathering on. Looking forward to this one. Dave

DaveJL
Cheers Shaun. Made a brief start by building up all the ordnance, tanks and Sniper pod. Everything bar the tanks and GBU-39s are from the Academy kit: The lovely Eduard GBU-39s: More soon. Dave

Wasn't aware of that mate, the intake ramps look like they would be manipulated to allow the intakes themselves to be adjusted. Back to this build, and i've done a bit more, a bit off the track from the instructions, but the main fuselage is assembled: The dark grey plastic is the Sniper pylon from the Academy kit. I also dropped the ailerons a bit, as this seems to be the norm for jets on the ground. A sharp blade along the edges of the part sorted it. Only a dab of filler has been required thus far, though i'll need a drop more on the joins of the outer part of the wings. The general fit is excellent, if only all Revell kits were like this! Pylons built up, with launch rails from the Academy kit: Won't be back to the bench for close to 2 weeks, due to work, a wedding and a trip to Ukraine. madcat911
Nice work so far. However I suspect you have installed the missile launch rails on the wing pylons too far aft. Mark

Luckily they've been easily moved.
Hewy
got the majority together well dave ,a slight correction on the pylons shouldn't pose you too much trouble, glynn

DaveJL
Slow progress on this one. Having a bit of a modelling blip these last few weeks. Anyway, main fuselage cleaned up and GPS dome added: As brilliant as the Revell kit is, I always seem to need some filler at the join of the 2 wing portions. Not too much of an issue. Cockpit was build up, painted, detailed and given a light wash: Same for the front landing gear bay: Front fuselage closed up: Be a few days before I get back to the bench. Hope I can get both entries done at this rate. More soon. Dave

Is this for E models only and painted off white? Do the C models have it behind the grill behind the cockpit - white circular area or is it the same place as the E? The circle behind the vents just aft of the canopy is also appearing on the E model. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/IBD9j_fHAvY/maxresdefault.jpg http://images04.military.com/media/news/equipment/f-15e-strike-eagle-1800-ts600.jpg No idea what it is though! DaveJL
More done and i'm finally getting back in the grove! Most of the assembly is now complete. Any minor areas of filler were cleaned up, the forward antennae (updated examples from the Academy kit), CFTs and pylons added and the Eduard GBU-39 launcher/pylon added. Just a small bit of filler to clean up around the CFT/intake join and then it's ready for priming. More soon. Dave
crushkill
Looking forward to seeing this one finished, that weathering your aiming for is beautifully ugly, like any working aircraft should be. I can't wait to see how you pull it off!

Looks like condensation, but it also reminds me a lot of oil with dust in it. If you look at images of humvees or tracked vehicles in Iraq you can see it all over them (especially around turrets or engines). I would use try mixing some pigment with like a small (think one drop) of baby oil. Test it out on another kit first though. The hard part would be getting a clear cost over it that shows the "wet" nature of it

DaveJL
Painting is well underway. I got sidetracked from the main airframe and painted the majority of sub assemblies. Ordnance first: All with decals and panel wash added (bar the fuel tanks). Seats: Exhaust petals started. Sprayed white then weathered with Tamiya pigments: Airframe next.
