They were very good mate, I tend to paint the yellow bands on the bombs.
DaveJL
Nothing to show on this one as i've been away for a few days and work has kept me fairly busy with limited days off. I'm hopeful i'll still get this done in the time limit.
DaveJL
Long overdue update and we're getting there. Airframe all painted, ready for gloss coat: Note the lighter grey rudder - not sure if this particular jet had a C model replacement rudder, but i've seen images of jets with one in place and thought it looked good. I've also added some light 'patches' across parts of the model. Hard to see but you can just make some of it out below the cockpit area. Remaining sub assemblies glossed and ready to be added: Tanks and pylons also given a panel line wash. Close up of the exhausts: Landing gear: A note on the decals. I've noticed that they aren't quite correct for the jet I plan to build - 890487 - flagship of the 335FS. The Authentic decals do not include the '335th FS' part for the tail fins so I've ordered a set of these to get the correct tail fin decals and some other details. Until their arrival, I'll add the stencils etc. More soon. Dave

DaveJL
Also just found out that this jet hit 12,000 flight hours during 'Inherent Resolve' last year. Article here.
Tim Moff
Cool stuff....maybe our F15s should swap rudders What colour you go for with the Antennas - seems to be standard on Cs and Es? Off white, or grey? Looking the part now.
DaveJL
They could mate! The antennae are all light ghost grey. Not sure if this is correct but from reference photos it looks a pretty good match. They certainly aren't white! Dave

Article here. Interestingly, according to that article, 89-0487 is he only E model with and Air to air kill, being an MI-24 Hind of the Iraqi AF, destroyed with a GBU12 during Desert Storm in 1991..... It seems it was the only E with and Air to Air kill...... Some F15Es from the 492FS Bolars returned to Lakenheath, from Inherent Resolve, 1, 97-0219, was carrying some mission markings, including a green star.... I remember the Syrian AF jet being downed by a Super Hornet, so I think this must have taken out a Drone that was approaching a coalition FOB in Syria...... http://www.lakenheath.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1343641/492nd-fs-returns-from-deployment/

DaveJL
New decals arrived: Got them on along with the stencils from the Academy kit: Once the top coat of gloss goes on it'll be time for a panel wash. Not going to make the deadline unfortunately. Dave
DaveJL
More done. Panel line wash went on: Left for 30 minutes then removed. I then added a homemade grey wash, applied in random areas across the jet as per online reference pictures. Then, some Tamiya smoke mixed with a dab of washing up liquid, was added to certain areas to give the basis of the grimy and sandy look i'm going for. Once dry, I added all the ordnance, fuel tanks and ejection seats: Kit will be given a couple of coats of Vallejo matt varnish before being attacked with pigments and weathering powder to give that worn look. https://theaviationist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/340EARS_10.jpg https://theaviationist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/F-15E-GBU-31s-refuel.jpg Then just need to add clear parts and that will be that. Missing the deadline but should have it done this week or next. Dave
