Italeri CH-129 Cormorant **Finished**

Recommended Posts

This is my entry, tried to contact the Mods about eligibility and so far had no responce so I will post away and if it isn't a goer one of them can delete the thread.

I had started this after the GB started but realised I could have entered it. As it is basically a Merlin I figured it would fit the bill of being constructed in Britain.

So the build has progressed from my first request but I will start from the beginning.

The build will be basically OOB with a few minor alterations (if I can be bothered).

The CH-129 kit does not truly reflect the real thing. first thing was to add an extra axle to the main gear, I will use some wheel from the spares box for the new axles.

I got some paint on some seats and rotor blades

I started the fuselage assembly as well,

Italeri missed the forward observation windows and I will not bother to add them since I don't have anything similar to plonk in the holes.

Seats installed in the cockpit and fuselage half. again the interior is not per the real thing, there are stretcher mounting points and some sort of control station down back that I will not worry about.

That's all for now.

Thanks, John. A little more progress to show.

A test fit show cockpit

Fuselage now glued.

A small gap under the windscreen will require some puttying

The lower fuselage did not align very well near the ramp when the glue set so some judicious filing and sanding will be required to remove the step.

Some masking with tape and masking fluid

The painting has started, I primed it so I had a uniform base coat to start with, painting yellow over yellow plastic and white putty is fraught with danger ( or lots of coats to get everything to blend.

And then applied some Xtracolor Insignia Yellow (not sure it is the correct shade but it was all I had handy).

Looks like another coat required and the rotor head repainted when the yellow is sorted.

Cheers John,

I had a bit of a masking fluid disaster, it decided it did not want to come off the plastic. I managed by a couple of means to remove it.

It will not be a prize winner (not that any of my builds are!) but it will be good enough for government work.

The offending masking fluid, I sanded it off a couple of panels (which had to be polished and re-coated with Future). The last panel (seen here) was hit with water which helped to loosen it a little and then scraped off with a tooth pick.

I also managed to push 2 of the cheek windows in during the rectification of the masking issue. So out with the clear glue

THe previously damaged windscreen panel looks OK now under the Future
