Curtiss Tomahawk Mk.IIb, 1/48 Airfix P-40B

Recommended Posts

My latest finished modell.

Airfix great P-40B model built as a British Tomahawk from the 112th Sqn in Egypt 1941. S/N AK402 Flown by Neville Duke MTO of RAAF
A really nice and relaxing build. But I had to spice it up a little with the addition of Ultracast seat and propeller, Eduard Brassin wheels and exhaust stacks plus PE detail set. I also added Masters dedicated turned brass gun barrels and pitot.
The decals are from Kits-World Decals.

I also made a gun sight inside the cockpit taken from a Hasegawa Spitfire kit.

For being me this was quite a quick build that didn't pose much of a challenge so to add some interest I made a desert inspired base. This is the first time that I've tried to make my own base and considering that I think it turned out quite well.

best regards

Johan

Hi Johan,

Lovely model, and well displayed. The weathering looks just right to me.

Thanks very much David.

Have to say that some of the more subtle weathering don't show up very well in the photos though.

Superb! The colours and subtle weathering are spot on and the base really sets it off. Excellent work!

Chris

Thanks Chris.

Nicely done all round, I'm quite tempted to get one myself.

The base looks great, just needs the white edge on the groundwork colouring in.

Pete

Thanks Pete, you really should get one, it's a gem of a kit in my mind.

You are right about the edges on the ground, I should fix that. It's where the masking took pieces of the groundwork with it when removed.

Plane and base look great!

I also love making such bases. It's a lot of fun because you can play around with all kinds of materials (wood putty, plaster, sand, gravel, white glue, static grass, ...).

Yea, I really liked the process too. You can let the artist in you loose and basically run wild.
