giemme
Ok thanks For that kind of job, I use Lifecolor Matt Black (or Italeri Flat Black) thinned with some Future (actually, it is the Emulsio 6 Mesi). Easy to remove any excess with a toothpick, if need be, and it doesn't leave nasty residuals on clear plastic. Just my Ciao

Massimo
Hi everybody, thanks for the comments! I feel better after a bit of food... It was now time to concentrate on the landing gears. This is what the nose one looked kike. I replaced the original shock absorber shaft with a longer one made of welding rod, as on landing, without the aircraft's weight it's fully extended.. I also drilled the landing lights, to add a bit of detail. I added some tubing and detailed the system driving arm. I also fitter a piece of tube in the main wheels,to increase the locating pins' size. So now it was time for some painting. As usual I started with black. Then white, the colour for the landing gears and wheels. Here's the nose gear and the main wheels after painteng and washing. This is what it looked like once applied to the model. So I concentrated on the wooden base.I marked the position where the wheels would have been. I painted the centerline a lighter grey, the shade of the first camouflage adopted for the Eagles. It's happened to me to see some fitted to aircraft, so I decided to choose this option for a little more colour. I also painted the flares dispencer red. I've seen picture with them painted wblue, red and white.I think this must be identifying different types of flares. I fitted the unpainted legs and wheels to the model to get the right alignment and I considered the angle I wanted , as they say you should never display a model parallel to the base... Then I drilled the holes and I tested the filling with the whels first... and later with the model.I was slowly getting there!!! This is what I was trying to represent. Enough for now! see you soon!!!

Massimo
Here I am again. The Academy model includes only old type weaponry, so I had to use missiles and launchers from a Kinetic F-16 I have in my stash. Here are the missiles eady to be painted ... ...and pylons: the back one in the first picture is the original one from the kit and the the fornt one is modified using the Kinetic launcher. The weel bays' doors were next: as they come, and after detailling them with PE parts. The airbrake was thinned down and internal detail was re-created by adding a shaped strip of adhesive metal tape Time to start painting the weaponary! Airbrakes and weel bays' doors after painting... ...and missiles. I was finally happy with the filling and sanding around the canoopy and I masked it again to give it the final coat. Here the main parts ar all ready for the final assembling. Once added some tube for the brakes, the two main wheel legs were re-painted. And the centreline tank got some stencilling Main wheels, pylons, nosewheel and doors were added. The last additions were the missiles ... ...and the airbrake. Next step the wooden base painting.

Massimo
Here I am again, This was the idea I had in mind was this. Once given a black coat all around I gave a couple of coats of Future, then I painted the grey "cloud" simulating the runway. I then masked the sides of the White lines and spayed them white, faded at the edges , to give it a dynamic look. I then sprayes some darker lines, dark gray and black free hand to represent the rubber left on the runway after many landings. I addes a black frame and finally the badges from 493rd FS , Liberty wing and 48th FW printed and laminated. After having added all small antennas I added the aircraft. This project took me nearly a year, as I spent much time away from home and had to concentrate on spotting , rather than modelling. I'm happy to have posted my wip here as I think some may share my enthousiasm for this subject or may be familiar with the fences around RAF Lakenheat. I'd really like to show it in the UK, but that will probably remain a dream! Thanks for the comments! Massimo
