KRK4m
AFAIK there's only one 1/72 kit of the AMX-13. Unfortunately Heller states that it portraits the last variant (from the '80s) with 105mm gun. My question is whether this kit is buildable as the 75mm-gunned early variant that was used by the French in anger (in Suez and then in Algierian campaign). What parts should be modified/replaced and generally - is it worth bothering with as the kit itself looks crude? Perhaps it will be better to wait for some new tool, but life is so short... sandsmodels
don't hold you breath for a new one in kit form, there is a diecast one from amercom/altaya done as an israeli one. the heller one is quite crude by todays standards, the tracks are the worst bit imho! philp
I purchased one off of evilbay and it should arrive any day. From the box art it looks like the 75mm gun but will know more when I have it in hand.
Steve Collins
Gentlemen, Both Model-Miniature and OKB Grigorov make AMX-13 kits with the 75mm gun in 1/72. Both are resin, both are _far_ better than the Heller kit. Steve
Sgt.Squarehead
I believe the Heller kit currently has the 105mm, it is possible that the tool was modified at some point after the original release which may have had the 90mm, info on this is rather contradictory. I'd second what Steve said above, however the Model Miniature gun can be problematical in its own right, mine was very bendy and the complex muzzle-brake was full of bubbles (in both the original and to a lesser extent the replacement that they sent). OKB do a full resin kit: https://shop.okbgrigorov.com/product/26/french-light-tank-amx-13.html & upgraded running gear for the Heller kit: https://shop.okbgrigorov.com/product/286/1-72-wheels-for-amx-30.html https://shop.okbgrigorov.com/product/285/1-72-tracks-for-amx-30-early.html If you ask Georgi nicely he might sell you one of his guns.....I've never found a bubble in an OKB product. There is also another solution.....You will need your Heller kit, a Unimodel Pz.38(t) or any variant thereof (for the track, sprocket & idler, Heller's are rubbish): UM Hetzer running gear on AMX-13DCA, from this thread: http://www.kgwings.com/amx-13dca/amx-13dca.html And finally a Unimodel Egyptian Super-Sherman for the gun/turret: No idea if the turret is actually better than the Heller version, but you will get a 75mm and it won't have bubbles (but it will have a mould seam).....You pays your money, as they say. Sgt.Squarehead
I take it you mean you got the Heller kit? Israel never used the AMX-13 105mm (FL-12 Turret), only the original 75mm (FL-10 Turret) version, so you would need a new turret and gun (see above). The Heller running gear is a POS.....Have you looked at it? You will need to replace it with something (see above). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMX-

Sgt.Squarehead
I'm interested in the new ACE kit, I've got most of the bits to upgrade my own Heller kit, but I'm not convinced that the finished model would justify the sacrifice of the (several) donor kits.
