A Brace of E-100's

A pair of Modelcollect's E-100's, one with the Rheintochter SAM, and one with a V1. Apart from the respective missiles the two kits are identical, but the V-1 version actually includes the Rheintochter as unused parts so if you're buying one, you're better off getting that one. The kits are nice and very well detailed, but the rubber band tracks are a bit of a pain. They're made from something that looks suspiciously like Dragon DS plastic, so how well they'll last in the long term remains to be seen.

The subjects are of course pure fantasy, although the Rheintochter is more of a viable possibility that the V1. Painted and weathered with AMMO paints and washes, apart from the red primer hull which was finished with Vallejo Cavalry Brown (see discussion here)

It's a good job that you stated that these were 1/72nd as I would have taken them for 1/35th. Absolutely superb painting and weathering. Nice one(s).

As always, a perfect job, very interesting vehicles, and the finish is magnificent.
Coments that you seem to have had problems with the tracks, which resemble the DS dragon, I have one to 1/35 stored there, I would like to know your opinion about them.

:goodjob:, cheers Andy

Thanks Francis,

The main issue with these tracks was that they were badly misshapen, mainly on the V1 version. Once they were fitted they were okay. I don't know if they are made from the same material as the DS tracks, but others have reported issues with Dragon tracks deteriorating over time. Don't know if the same will happen with these. I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for reply,

I have had problems with tracks from Italeri, but I talk about 15 years, saved, but still, when trying to mount them, they have broken ...
How much time would we be talking about in the DS case, if you have any info about it? ...
Cheers Andy

I've never used DS tracks myself, so I'm going on what other modellers have reported. Some people have had them split or even disintegrate after a few years (or months in some cases). There's a more in depth discussion about it on Armorama.

Hopefully it wont happen with these, and Modelcollect seem to be switching to plastic link and length tracks on their recent releases.

Very nice! I actually saw these two weapons recently in the Berlin Technik Museum. The SAM I had never seen nor heard of before.

Cheers Gaz. I don't think many people had heard of the Rheintochter before, but it seems to be flavour of the month at the moment. Both Bronco and Amusing Hobby have released 1/35 kits of it this year, and Modelcollect have released it with E-50 and E-75 hulls as well as this one.

Lovely models.

What technique do you use to get the colours to look 'washed out' and faded?

Thanks Sairou,

The faded look was done by overspraying the base colour with a lightened version of it.

These two shots were prior to the camo and weathering, and show the fading/modulation more clearly
