TonyTiger66
Crikey Stuart you've gone for both !!! With three weeks to go !! This is a 'must watch'. Great choice of subjects. Nice kit manufacturer choices too. There are nice prototype schemes on the Special Hobby Koolhoven box above. The camouflage on the Fokker DXXII is really striking. Really looking forward to this; good luck and enjoy . Best regards TonyT

Hardtarget
Right, lets get started. First up the Fokker. Sprues etc This is a limited run kit and shows all issues that come with a kit of this type such as excessve mould around the sprue gates and onto the part istelf. Fit issues im prediciting will be a slight issue as will be the general plastic softness. DSC_0003 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Evidence of the injection pins on the wings which will need to be dealt with. DSC_0005 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Cockpit and what I gather is the fuel tank parts all cemented together to their relevant bulkhead or sidewall. Parts are fine just need cleaning up a little. DSC_0006 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr More injector pins and some moulding issues around the prop nacel. Hardtarget
Further update today Booms, wings and props. Wings needed a little fettling as they are not 'flat'. Booms had injection pins that needed to be removed and i needed to sand the reat of the inner tail fin as it sat proud when mated up againts the outter so it sat flush. Props got a clean up from the hurrendous extra plastic around the spinner. DSC_0008 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Cockpit painted and slight weathering. DSC_0009 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Nose weight added and the fron engine intake had a nice great big see through hole that went through to the cockpit. A bit of grooved plasticard was cut and cemented to replicate a grille. DSC_0010 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Fit issues with the two halves that needed cementing. I used my 'sprueglue' so that it filled the gaps and once dry ready to sand. DSC_0011 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Boom time. Booms cemented again with the sprueglue. Fit wise this wasnt bad but bot surfaces needed to be sanded level. DSC_0012 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr And how she sits this evening, ready for a sanding. TonyTiger66
It's coming along very well Stuart. Very rapid progress, I wish I was that fast ! It's a nice little kit, looks like the wing to fuselage join is good. Your sprueglue recipe seems to work a treat Great stuff TonyT
Hardtarget
Right update time. Next up Koolhoven Cockpit floor, seat and undercarridge with PE fret. Fuselage halves cemented using 'spruglue' DSC_0016 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Not the greates of fit at the wing root, still sprueglu will fix that. A little fettling but she fits at least. DSC_0022 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Or there abouts, with a little persuasion DSC_0023 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Stabiliser braces, well they dont have the angles at the tips to fit nicely to the fuselage and underside of the sab, but with a little sanding to the required angle I got them to fit ok, cemented in place with sprueglu so that i can sand delicately aroudn the buutt join to creat the 'bump'. We are modellers after all. DSC_0024 by stuart wellard, on Flickr
Hardtarget
Prop and U/C assembled after tidying up which is required especially the prop. DSC_0025 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Sanding of the cowling and rescribing the panel lines marking them in pencil. DSC_0026 by stuart wellard, on Flickr U/C in place. The joys of spruglue is that is cures to a plasitc holding u/c in place firmly over tamiya cement or poly cement. Superglue will just bond rather than melt u/c in place. TonyTiger66
Superb progress. Very clear photographs too This is a great dual WIP. It would be great to know your recipe for sprueglue, it's very effective for you here. Best regards TonyT
Hardtarget
Hi Tony, Get a used Tamiya cement bottle with brush. Get a bottle of industrial MEK from ebay. Add sprue a good one, not one that has pigment and add to desired thickness.
TonyTiger66
Thanks HT . I've never used industrial MEK. I tried making sprueglue using Tamiya glue and plastic, but it would take forever to set. Also sometimes it just melted the plastic, especially on older kits like a Hasegawa Dragonfly I had. I'll try to get the MEK, your results here are very good. A glue and filler all in one It would be great if you've done some more work in the background on the models and could maybe get one in the gallery ? If not, no problem, it's a fantastic step by step thread. A very valuable resource for those (like me!) that want to build these kits. The Koolhoven engine is rather exquisite, a model within a model. Very tiny parts! Looking forward to the paint schemes and orange bits ! Hardtarget
Hi Tony, Your wish is my command! Sorry for the lack of pics but been building ratehr than uploading and I only tend to upload sporadically for some reason. Anyhoo, Update time. Koolhoven, Its colour time.... Fuselage masked after thaving her grey/blue airbrushed on. For the blue I used Vallejo MA 71113 FS35177 which is a close match without having a paint chip of the real ac to hand. DSC_0014 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Extreme metals aluminium was then airbrushed on the remainder of the ac. DSC_0015 by stuart wellard, on Flickr You may have noticed that im using enamels and acrylics and there is not reaction between the two. Masking off and a little touch up around the wing roots. DSC_0016 by stuart wellard, on Flickr She was givent a coat of clear and decals were on. Not many thankfully. Prop in standard night and stabiliser braces were added which are PE and little too long imo. DSC_0017 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Final touchest including the PE gunsight and Oleo braces. Hardtarget
Fokker update The whole ac was airbrushed in humbrol hu10 brown whichi s a gloss but is the right darkness and has a little bit of chocolate in it. DSC_0020 by stuart wellard, on Flickr The camo was also airbrushed freehand using my .2 infinity. The tan is Humbrol Authentics Hi .4 Sand, and the Green is Xtracolour x261 lichtgrun RAL 6003 as i felt these were the closest matches.
