Howlindawg
Hi All, I'm wondering what people use to simulate glass on instruments in the larger scales? Up to now all my models have been in 1:72 so the absence of glass hasn't been an issue but in 1:32 I reckon the absence would be noticeable. So; What technique do you use? Courageous
What about a coat or two of gloss varnish/ Klear?
Gorby
I only do 1/48, but I use a blob of Tamiya X-22 clear varnish.
Wm Blecky
A while back, I came across a product from AK Interactive called Gauzy Agent Glass Coat. I have yet to try it, but it does look interesting and worth a go. Edited June 24, 2017 by Wm Blecky
Wm Blecky
Here is a tutorial to using Gauzy Agent on a canopy. Rather reminds me of using Future Floor wax in the same manner. 1
Wm Blecky
Just to add to the above, I also came across this You Tube review of the product. It certainly does look promising.
Stew Dapple
Micro Kristal Klear. Cheers, Stew
Beardie
I use Winsor and Newton oil paint varnish. Drop it into the instrument and leave it to dry. You do need to avoid touching it afterwards though or you will get fingerprints.
Intruder503
Tamiya X-22 for me.
Howlindawg
Thanks for the replies all. I'll try a drop of X-22 first, since I have some to hand, and see how it goes.
AngstROM
Deluxe Products Glue 'n' Glaze works well, and seems to outlast Kristal Klear for shelf-life. But if I can do it without murdering myself, I prefer to cut a suitably sized bit of clear acetate for MFDs or micro-punch a disc of same for round dials. This looks much more glass-like, especially with a drop of Klear to hold it in place.
Devo
I don't often bother adding the instrument glass but when I do, a drop of any clear gloss I have on hand is used.
Beardie
When I think about it CA might actually work pretty well too.
LaurieS
I use MIG Crystal Clear Glass.Used a variety but this is the best so far. It is a bit gloopy and if you are careful you can blob it to give a bit of 3D. Mig also do a number of colours in the same product. Light amber red blue etc good for lighting on aircraft and vehicles. Laurie
Stevejj
30 years ago I used to use watered p.v.a glue, looks like things have moved on! Must confess tho my main interest is model railways now. Last aircraft I built was a Roden d.h. 4 I would add a pic but don't know how Steve
cmatthewbacon
Citadel 'Ardcoat... great stuff. I use it all the time on 1/24 car dashboards, so 1/32 IPs should be similar... best, M.
