A slow progressing Ton's up Lanc !

Recommended Posts

Hello Dears,

However, I cannot start a WiP for any of my running projects. I always have "side projects", kind of kits that are processing at the pace of "an asthmatic snail with a bad limb" thank to the martian for the sentence !!

I participate to the researches about 2 Lancasters wrecks in my vicinity, after the second excavation, I decided to start mine as a Ton up Lanc.

Here's the well known kit

WP_20170316_11_12_54_Pro

As a tail sitter, she do not need ballast but for the sake of the Lancaster spirit, I will include a bit from ED800 and PD306 in this kit.

I will depict "Phantom of the Ruhr" I also really like the F-4 so it is a double shot here !

Knowing that the engine nacelles are flawed, I bought some aftermarket parts, like these

WP_20170316_11_15_26_ProWP_20170316_11_14_05_Pro

I make a big mistake since I wanted to engrave the kit, I should have this done on the wing only :frantic:

Since on the fuselage, the riveting stand proud :owww:, too late once it is open :worms: one just have to carryin' on !!

The flaps are cut because I will drop it a bit, Eduard interior parts are great, even if it will not be really visible once the fuselage is closed.

WP_20170316_11_14_36_Pro

Now, Dears, I have a question, Belcher bits give us differents air intakes for the engine nacelles

But when I look surviving Lanc, I did'nt see differences in between inboard and outboard air intakes ???

Should I rectify this ?? And which one is the good one ?? Large or small ??

WP_20170316_11_13_43_Pro

I will post sometime on this thread, but it will not go faster,

For now, I'm preparing 2 RFI's

Thanks for watching,

Ok Spad, here's my Lancaster, will not be as good as your Bloody Parylyzer !!

Sincerely.

So, are we to have TWO Tamiya Lancasters working in unison ??

One to encourage the other or do I have to get my other one out of the box ??

Hello Ian !

No ! please come on and join up !

12 merlins together, it a philarmonic orchestra !

Unless you have the goal to put another thing on the engine pods ???

Mmmmh ! may be perhaps !;)

If you are talking about the engine air intakes, they did come in 2 sizes. A larger intake was used on aircraft that were due to be sent to the Far East as the air is used to cool the radiator that is in the ducting. Different manufacturers used different aircraft as their reference material, hence the narrow/wide variation between kits.

Hello dears,

Here I share a story, hope that it xwill be interesting !

To answer my Dear fellow @The Spadgent, Yes the biggest chunk was a Merlin...

See...

All the photos here are from my Friend Jean Couvreur, We did some searchings together !

All that start in a moistured early morning in Sart Risbart not far from Beauvechain (Airfield named previously Le culot)

Then start the search, we knew the approximate place

Digging for a Lanc need more than a shovel and 2 guys !!

And here are some shots of the parts...

Since I knew that there was no casualties... My son came up with me and participate his first search !!

40150318102_b971557d8d_b.jpg

Some Browning ...

Will not dare to shoot again, they need a major overhaul !

40150318062_2bcb76c592_b.jpg

So the tiny parts came from it !!

I will come back with the story of the plane as soon as I find back the file....

Too many books , dos, papers and so on, That drive SWMBO mad !!

Have a nice modelling week end, Dears !!

Look chaps

I've got two smaller 72's to finish and in the meantime I shall look into the big box and see whats what.

I have a display table in the front lounge that needs a  2nd aircraft so there is a real possibility  that this could be a starter.

I know I had some decals produced so I shall check those again (its been some time since I got them done) and identify the aircraft I need to build.

Thanks CC for sharing that. I can’t belive you dug up a WW2 aeroplane, a lancaster at that! Proper “Time Team” stuff. (It’s an old uk show with Tony Robinson, digging up old stuff) I’m sooo jealous. How you make so many different kits is beyond me.

Hope you’re having a splendid weekend.

That propeller boss looks like its off a radial engine, a Mk.II perhaps  ??

Perhaps its the scale of it has thrown me as usually the prop boss is covered over with a spinner  ?

Ian

No that's appropriate as well for a Merlin-powered Lanc; you just don't normally see it because indeed they're covered by the spinners. Also, the photos even show the Hamilton Standard logo still on - I don't think that the Hercules-powered ones were fitted with Hamilton Standard props.

Hello Ian,

No, Look at the first pic, we dug out 4 Merlins, they are now stored at Beauvechain... At least I hope they still are there:huh:

My friend Pierre is looking for a Conversion for a 1/48 Manchester AND a 1/48 Lincoln !!

He already got a Lancaster (Johnny Walker) and a Halifax (Bambi)

He is doing another 1/48 Halifax but converted to a Tollerton !

He is a BC sig on himself !

I will doing a good Lanc, at least I will try...

The prop were covered by spinners, but these are barely recognizable, I will post a pic, I think I got one but I'm not sure.

Sincerely.

Hello Inaseng,

Thank for your kind answer, Belcher bits gave the 2 differents air intakes.

But when we were in UK, we looked at each of the Lancs and there seem to be no standardization...

Whatever, I'll copy the 2 types of air intke and try to have a good pic of the original "Phantom of the Rhur"

Will reproduce her as she just became a "Ton's up"

Thank again.

Sincerely.

Hello Dears,

Great improvement in my work...:clap::clap:

Now I can go on BM unless I did'nt have a pending intervention !!

I can't see much of the photos but I can read...

I have the very good decal sheet from X tradecals, so I can choose any time of the Phantom's life !

Have a very good modelling week !

Sincerely.
