Dermo245
Hi everyone, While 1/72 is normally my default scale, I've built the odd 1/144 kit. And being a fan of naval aviation, I've always had a big soft spot for the Grumman C-2 Greyhound - they do all the unglamorous but essential hauling to and from carriers - whether that's spare parts, passengers or parcels from home. At some point I'll either save up enough for the RHVP resin kit or Kinetic will downsize their 1/48 beasty so for now I'm going with this conversion from OzMods in 1/144 using a Heller E-2C Hawkeye as the donor kit. C-2A Greyhound_Conversion_Set by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Here's what you get in the OzMods kit..A two-sided instruction sheet with assembly details on one side and paint/decal placement in colour on the other (not pictured) OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Clear fuselage halves... OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents_fuselages by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr New tail section and ramp in plastic along with some resin bits. OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents_2 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And nice decals for VRC-30 "The Providers" OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents_decals by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And what's in the Heller Hawkeye kit....this will provide the wing, engines, landing gear, vertical stabilisers. Heller Hawkeye_contents by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr My very first time doing a cross-kit conversion - wish me luck! Romeo Alpha Yankee
Good luck Dermot, I am a fan of the Greyhound and have a Falcon vac form conversion for my 1/72 attempt (when I get around to it). This one should be considerably easier than my vac form set.

This one should be considerably easier than my vac form set. Would love to see you work your magic on that one Ray..I've got a donor Fujimi Hawkeye myself, just need to get the Falcon conversion! Here's an update on this one.. Cockpit added to fuselage...apart from some basic painting, didn't do much else as won't be much to see in there when it's finished. I polished and Kleared the cockpit glass as much as i could but not really that clear in the end. Also added some fishing weights behind the cockpit bulkhead. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_5 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And buttoned up with the conversion kit ramp parts. I also put in some plasticard tabs to help with joining the halves which were a bit rough and not a great fit. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_6 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And the wing and engines added. The wing fit wasn't great......don't know if it's the Heller parts or my bodging attempts... 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_7 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Going to be a lot of this ahead... 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_9 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr First coat of primer down to check for issues...(there were a few!) 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_10 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Some more filler, sand, primer. I also added the resin bits above the cockpit as am happy with the seam there. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_11 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr You'll see that I've left the tail off..it's got a fair bit of masking and the fit is better so am going to paint and decal that separately and then add towards to end. That's the plan anyway... Thanks for looking. Cheers. Dermot Edited July 4, 2017 by Dermo245 photos fixed
Dermo245
So this one has moved on a bit but haven't posted as was trying to sort out photobucket like so many here. I probably did two or three rounds of sanding, filling and priming - mostly for the top seam where the main wing meets the fuselage. I think it's because the conversion is made for the Revell kit. Anyway, happy to start masking last night for the gull grey. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_12 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr While most of the Greyhound schemes are a straight edge on the lower fuselage, I went for a wavy edge that I've seen on some VRC-30 aircraft; think it's a nice change. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_13 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And a couple of hours later after two brush-painted coats. Yes, there is a slight edge where the paint meets the tape but I'll gently get rid of that. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_15 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr If anything, the gull grey is a shade on the dark side (it's a homemade mix) but i can live with that and I'm happy with the results. Also got the top wing done. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_16 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Next up will be masking for the de-icer boots on the wing, tail and vertical stabs. Thanks for looking. Intruder503
I've been delivered to the carrier quite a few times on those. Unfortunately I never got a cat shot, just traps. Great work so far!! Romeo Alpha Yankee
Looks good Dermot, coming together fairly quickly compared to some of my builds.

bootneck
Basically it is the general-purpose aircraft for transporting cargo and passengers to and from the carrier. Mike
heloman1
Hi Dermo. what a great little build. I have a 72nd built model left to me by a good friend. I also have one copy of the original ID Models vac kit, (anyone interested) which I produced them masters for way bacj inthe late '70's. I'll follow your build with interest. Dermo245
Thanks for all the comments lads! So into the home stretch with this one, sorry for not posting in a while. Next up was masking for the deicer boots on the leading edge.. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_19 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Followed by the nose.. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_20 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_22 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And tail.. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_17 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_18 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr The outboard vertical surfaces and their inner facing side also got a coat of Revell Night Blue 54 in preparation for the decals. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_23 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Speaking of decals, here we go! 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_24_decals by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr After applying the tail decals, I found them to be very dark, almost black. So I went over them with some thinned Night Blue again and was much happier with the result. 1_144_C-2A Greyhound_WIP_26_decals by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Have to hand it to OzMods - the decals were great with sharp printing and colours and stuck down really well on the airframe (if a little too well sometimes which made moving tricky). The tiny blue cheat line was a bear to do - would probably try to paint and mask it if doing again. Also, the decal placement instructions were hit and miss but I guess that's what online image searches are for! Last few things to add like gear and props and then onto some weathering. As always, thanks for looking and enjoy your modelling. Dermot Edited July 17, 2017 by Dermo245 Fixing photos

Woodziee
Looks great. Got to see one of these depart and return to RAAF Amberley today as they are participating in an Exercise over here at the moment. They have a great sound.
Dermo245
So with the last bits added, she's done! Happy how it turned out in the end. If you're building this one, would recommend the Revell kit as the donor - the conversion from OzMods is made for it and not really the Heller which I used. Will add some more pics in RFI. Thanks for following and the comments!
