Martian
As if I haven't got enough on my plate, I picked up Aoshima's 1/700 HMS Hermes kit. I quite fancy doing her as she appeared pre-war on the China station. I am a bit stuck for colours. White hull, obviously but island, funnel and flight deck? I have got some Fairey IIIFs from Trumpeter and have ordered some Flycatchers from Shapeways. An etched set is also n the way along with a little resin junk should I feel inclined to go down the diorama route. Martian

I just need general colours really seeing as how I am as colour blind as a bunch of colour blind hedgehogs from the Hungarian School of Art in a bag! Martian
Sorry for the poor English, it should of course been an array of colour blind hedgehogs. Martian the Corrected
Geoff_B
It's a shame Fujimi or Flyhawk didn't do their HMS Hermes in a 1930's scheme with appropriate aircraft. Should look the part with the far east colours and the colourful biplanes. http://www.carrierbuilders.net/element/element.php?id=709 The mentions White hull and Buff upper works whilst on the china station Pity you didn't get the Flyhawk 1937 Coronation review kit, its got the earlier pre-war configuration but no aircraft apart from Swordfish. but with its full hanger deck it lends itself better to a diorama (it also has its own etch included ) Edited June 17, 2017 by Geoff_B Additional infomation found
Martian
Thanks Geoff much food for thought there and some cracking pictures! Jamie at Sovereign Models reckons grey island and funnel. At some angles it looks like the island and funnel are different colours but then again it could just be the camera angle giving that impression. A book on the ship has just this minute dropped on my door mat, maybe it will shed some more light on the subject or. more likely, confuse the issue still further! I am happy with the Aoshima kit as I don't like working with resin to any great extent. The squeak you get when carving it sets my teeth on edge in the same way as some little toe rag would do at school when they ran their fingernails down the blackboard. I think I got them confused with Orange Hobby. Must be the heat or the ale used to combat the same. Muddled of Mars
