Mistel picture sources, anyone know of any?

Hi,

I have been trying to find some good picture sources of Mistels, specifically for the Fw.190s and Bf.109s that were attached to the Ju.88 base unit.  I have had no luck locating good, clear pictures of these aircraft, in particular of the 190s that were used.  Getting really particular, of the 190's wings.

If anyone can help out, I'd appreciate it.

By far the best source I know of, is the out-of-print Classic Publications book, "Mistel: German Composite Aircraft and Operations 1942-45," by Robert Forsyth. The book has a particularly good selection of post-war photos showing the guiding Fw 190's quite well. Unfortunately, at this point finding a reasonably-priced copy will obviously be a challenge:

Osprey has also recently released a title on Mistel units, less comprehensive but well done and affordable:

I've just seen the Forsyth book going for £275 on Amazon! I bought mine, admittedly years ago, for the original cost probably not much more than 1/10th of that. I need to do a serious inventory of my books, they are probably worth a lot more than I've ever considered.

Cheers

The Fw-190 preserved at Cosford was captured as part of a Mistel composite.

It's pretty much in it's original configuration with many unique features. It was previously hung from the ceiling at the IWM which means there are many photographs of it's underside in the public domain.

Cheers,

Bill.

Another good batch of pics here, with a few fine close-ups of the 190's, including some always hard-to-find underside details:

The "world war photos" site is new to me, looks quite outstanding overall. Got the link from another Britmodeller post!

I'm not usually one for resurrecting 3 year old threads but thought it appropriate in this instance as this thread was where I first became aware of this book a year or two ago.

A revised 2020 edition has now been reprinted, UK RRP £45 but available for £25 from ebay. Mine arrived last week and I highly recommend it, definitely one of the better aviation history books I've read.

Hi.

The FW 190 on top of Ju 88 AM77 was W.Nr.733759.

It was one of the two FW 190s that came to South Africa and was scrapped in 1955.

It is dealt with in my book Crash Archive Desert Special Vol 1
