Eric Mc
I've been on the hunt for one of these for quite a while. I built one over 20 years ago and would like to have another go. It's not too bad a kit for its age. I can't seem to find any anywhere. Anybody got any idea where one could be sourced?
Skodadriver
It's long out of production. All I can suggest is keeping an eye on eBay and the second-hand specialists like Kingkit. Be prepared to pay a premium price. As far as I remember the DC-8-50 was boxed simply as "DC-8" while the -61 was boxed as "DC-8 Super 61" or "DC-8-61F/63F" depending on issue. I'm pretty sure both kits were produced in Mexico under the Lodela name so if you see a Lodela "DC-8" it should be the same plastic as the Revell DC-8-50. Don't forget that Welsh Models make various versions of the DC-8 including the -52 which might be a more practical option.
Rb277170
I know Collectakit have an Aurora Pan Am DC8 at the moment. Sorry it doesn't specify the scale or model, but Pan Am DC8s were all short bodied.
Eric Mc
Welsh Models might be the best option. Authentic Airliners also do one but it isn't cheap. A quick Google reveals the Aurora DC-8 to be a "box" scale (1/103).

I have one in the stash but it's the super 61 Chris.
Eric Mc
I have an unbuilt DC-61/63 in the stash. I bought it at the same time as the 50 (around 1990). I built the 50 but not the 61/63. I have a set of Air Spain decals that I would love to apply to a short fuselage 8. Air Spain used very early 20s - which had JT4 engines with those odd separate ring structures behind the engine. pommie commie
Just remember the -51 kit has the very earliest DC8-11 engines (which were quickly replaced in service) The -61 kit has the stretch fuselage (allegedly too long) and decent engines (which are the same as the -51 used). Eric Mc
Yes, the very early engines on the 11 are a lot less complex looking than the versions on the 21, which feature the exhaust ring. I think Braz do these later engines.
whenIwereyoung
Braz BZ4094, bought a couple of sets recently for some Revell DC8-60s in my stash that are to be cut down to 30/40 series. I'm still trying to work out if the Conway powered 40 used the same nacelle as the JT4D on the 30, they certainly look very similar unlike those on the 707-320/420. Not sure about the short fuselage Revell DC8 but the stretch is a bit overscale, supposedly around 1/140. Graham
Alex1978
Keep looking on ebay. They show up there occasionaly but most of them aren't cheap. Prices vary between 50.- to 100.- USD depending the boxing. I have a few sets of engines for the DC-8-50 in my spares stash,if you find a DC-8-10 Revell kit I could help you out with a set to make a -
Eric Mc
Thanks for the offer. I really want to do an AIr Spain 21 at some time. I have a built Revell DC-8 11 which I finished in Eastern colours. I made it 27 or so years ago so I don't regard it as being to a decent standard. Plan B would be to strip it back to the bare [plastic and repaint the whole thing - and replace the engines with Braz alternatives.
