Rigging Hell it's The Bloody Paryliser!!! Handley Page 0/400 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody.

I've been thinking about building this beauty for a while now and after looking for some info and possible builds to follow I have come to the conclusion that either I've stumbled upon a lesser known kit that people just don't know about (prolly not) or that it's a kit that's been started, become a pain right up the Harris (understatement) and relegated to the draw of doooom.  :analintruder:The few I have seen together and finished are wonders to behold I'm fascinated by its enormity and sheer balls out crazyness. It has curtains!!!!

For better of for worse I'm going to run at this with everything I've got. :pilot:

it's going to be OOB pretty much with some scratch work here and there.

I hope you'll join me on this adventure of plastic and string. It's going to be fun!!!!:speak_cool:

I'm starting this thread to attach to my P38-RFI

Currently it's sitting waiting for move one.

Here is the obligatory box shot.

isn't she brilliant!

I've bought a couple of the windsock ref books and I'm planning on building the "last days" one.

Here we are as of now. The mouldings don't look too bad and I think all the parts at there.

Now the RFI has been done on my P-38 I'm looking forward to getting my teeth sunk into this.  Updates soon.

Take care and as always happy modelling guys.

Excellent. and a seat at the front too!

Mine's moving up the stash, so I'll follow on to see what, if any, snags there may be. The only one I know of is that it's damn awkward to get the fuselage together due to the nature of the parts - separate top, bottom and sides - what were they thinking?

I last did this one in '93. If I remember rightly (or wrongly) there were tiny holes (or I may have made them) for rigging next to the strut locations. I know I rigged each outer wing side with one piece of very thin elastic thread by pulling/pushing it through said holes in upper lower wing half and lower upper wing half prior to clagging the other wing halves if you know what I mean.

I have been really looking forward to this build, it may even inspire me to do my 0/100 conversion! You have 45 seconds starting from..........Now!

Am interested to see how you get on.

Have actually just started this myself. Kind of building it as a test. I thought I'd have a go at my first ever rigging as a bit of practice for a Wingnut kit. The rigging was easy and I enjoyed it.

Your kit looks much better than mine. Mine had the worst flash I have ever seen, thick as well as plentiful.

All the best, Martin

I'm in.

This is one kit I regret giving away years ago and never got around to replacing. Hope Airfix still have the moulds.

It has been rereleased. I got mine just a couple of years ago.

Good luck, Johnny Stringfellow!

The craziest thing of all, to my mind, was that the wings folded!

I know Shorts 184 single engined floatplane could fold, but THIS just seems extra crazy.

I will be doing mine wings folded, when I get around to it. Should be fun!

Oh this is going to be good - can't wait to see how this unfolds. Having seen this post I read the Wikipedia article about the O/400 - awesome stuff, well worth a read.

I will be watching with great interest as I built one in the late eighties.  I also had rigged it, yes a lot of work.  I moved from Brisbane to Casino left the model on the bonnet of my car and a gust of wind flew it away.  I picked up most of the pieces with the intentions of rebuilding it.  It would be easier to start with a new model.

Best of luck with this one.

Holy moley! There's a lot of love for this BIG Crazy bird it seems.:yahoo: glad you're all as excited about this as I am. Sorry @Martian Hale not quite got the glue out yet. Aerosmith tomorrow so I only have enough time to post the OTHER RFI. :giles:

Then I can at last begin on those pin marks!

lots and and lots of them, in all the wrong places. :pilot:

I'm glad I'm not too late to take a seat on this one.  Your 1/24 109 build was a classic - I'm in - now where is the popcorn.

I'm in!

Hope you had a great holiday Johnny?

That's a great and intriguing scheme. What did the 'last days' wording refer to?

Rigging, struts, a four piece fuselage and curtains, this is going to be a treat.

Settled in at the back with a warm blanket, slippers, dressing gown, cup of cocoa and a couple of buttered crumpets.:)

Best regards

I had this kit for years but always baulked at fixing the wings. The rib tapes are so pronounced as to make the wings look like theyre covered with a corrugated skin a la Ju 52. The solution being to sand the whole lot smooth and start again. I never got past that problem so I have no idea about the rest of the kit !  the kit and most of my stash went to sale when we downsized a year ago. IIRC it builds into a magnificent replica. There were build reviews pre interwebs in such as SMI etc.

I will be watching this one too and taking notes in readiness for the HpH 1/32 HP o/400 coming out

I figure if you can do this in 1/72 then my huge mitts should be able to cope with 1/32
