flarpen Posted June 10, 2017 Share Posted June 10, 2017 I'm building the 1/48 Airfix P-40 kit as a RAF 112 sqdn Tomahawk Mk.IIb. In the left wing there seem to be a light (landing light?). I've seen it in a few pictures and drawings. Airfix have supplied this light on the clear runner and there is a clear mark in the plastic where to drill out a hole for the light, but there is no mention of installing this light anywhere in the instructions. The question is, should this light be installed on a Mk.IIb Tomahawk or not? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mk IIb's on the 'net, and each of them showed the landing light under the LH wing, so I would probably drill out the opening and install it. I have attached a link to an excellent source of P-40 details, covering all versions, that might be useful. In the drawings section, you can see the location of the landing light on an underside view of a P-40E, but the same location was used for all versions, IIRC. I know on my 1/72 Hasegawa P-40 kits, I had to drill out the scribed circle that represented the light. I love 112 Sq. sharkmouths! Pictures of the AVG P-40 also show the light. And most models I've seen built have missed this as well.
