JackG
Working on a Finemolds kit, the holes in the bottom of the fuselage clearly will place the rack for the drop tank in an off center position - is this correct? If it is, wonder why, and also were the earlier 109 types the same? regards, Jack
Black Knight
Yes, it is correct, yes, earlier versions were just the same its due to part of the wing structure in the middle - that central bar/cover which runs fore to aft; the 109 was never designed to carry anything there
JackG
Oh I see, so that off center panel line on the underside is the strength point of the framework. Thanks! Now would the bomb/drop tank that is suspended lie in line with the rack or the aircraft? regards, Jack

Stonar
The offset was 4.0mm? So the Finemolds kit has offset the carrier by 0.055mm? Good luck with that Cheers Steve
Black Knight
No; that drawing is from the Airfix book. Its for a 1/24 scale model The off-set is 40mm, or approx 1.6 inches, about 0.55bar mm in 1/72, 0.833bar mm in 1/48 Some kits tho do have too much off-set

That makes more sense, and is doable on a model, even at 1/72. Where does the 4mm/1/16" come from? That is not the offset at 1/24 scale (unless the 1:1 offset was around 96mm). Black Knight
In the book it is 40mm but I think the 1/16 is a misprint for 1.6 inches
JackG
Thanks for the further confirmation on the offset rack. Yes the FineMold's kit looks to have it a bit more than the required 0.55mm. Looking closely at the rack and the four attachment points for the drop tank, they are slightly offset in the opposite direction so that the tank should sit dead center with the fuselage. regards, Jack
