Wee Beastie
My next build will be this new kit from Bobcat Models, their Yak-28P Firebar.Aftermarket extras include:-NeOmega resin seats.Aerobonus Soviet Cold War resin pilots.Plus Models crew ladder. An initial look at the sprues shows some good surface details, and well laid out, if very plain, instructions. Although a limited number of paint schemes, there's loads of marking options on the decal sheet.Untitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on Flickr
Flyingdutchman
Very interesting subject Ian! Not too many schemes to choose from but bare metal is nice too You got a good modelling-pace Evert

It would have been nice to have that included.
Wee Beastie
Cockpit is completed. This a very well detailed cockpit, straight out of the box. The NeOmega resin seats are nice, but not quite to the standard of Aries or Eduard.First photo shows the cockpit pre-weathering. Weathering done using UMP dark dirt wash, and lightly drybrushed with aluminium. Alclad Aqua gloss on the dials.Untitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on FlickrUntitled by ian gaskell, on Flickr
eng
Boom! Straight off the back of a stunning Su-17 and now this, absolutely superb. Love the work so far, this kit seems to be getting some good feedback and seems to build well. I'll be watching this one too, very nice. Colin W
One of my favourite Soviet aircraft. I might be tempted seeing how good the cockpit looks. Colin
Wee Beastie
Fuselage, engines and wings assembled. Fuselage fit was fine. The engine casings, however, weren't so good. One side was good, with a small step on one side that needed to be "encouraged" into place. The other side has a huge gap, as you can see from the photo, and further gaps around the remaining joins too. So plenty of plastic putty used. Now all,is good. When Bobcat start to produce the proposed bomber, and recce versions, I hope they can sort the fit issue out. Again, I'm finding the surface detail is very good.IMG_5631 by ian gaskell, on FlickrIMG_5632 by ian gaskell, on FlickrIMG_5633 by ian gaskell, on Flickr
Wee Beastie
All the filling and sanding is now done on the wing/engine assemblies. They're looking much better now. The wings are now fitted to the fuselage, and the fit here is very good. A little bit of sanding at each end of the wing roots, and they fitted straight into the wing root recess. Just masking off the canopy and cockpit to do, and we're ready for a bit of primer.DSC_7743 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_7737 by ian gaskell, on Flickr DSC_7738 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_7739 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_7740 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_7741 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_7742 by ian gaskell, on Flickr

Hewy
Looking good ian, i missed the bit ,or i wasn't paying attention, the under carriage it should be fitted before the fuselage halves are mated,or are you going gear up,,or devised a clever plan,on mine i left the front gear loose so i could set it with super glue after the plastic pins didn't really locate very well, and i found the rear gear is to be treated as you would a harrier, leave it pivoting on its locating pins and set once the outriggers are on ,you probably know this so I'll not bang on any more, good stuff so far though Glynn

Yes the undercarriage should be fitted, into the wheel bays, early in the build. I thought it was going to get in the way of spraying later on. I've trimmed back the locating pins, on the undercarriage legs. I've done a dry fit, and they will go in......just. Cheers for the heads up on the rear wheels.
Ex-FAAWAFU
That's looking fab. I assume that "Wee Beastie" is you, Ian; no-one could call the Firebar "wee". Beastie, certainly, but not wee.

Beastie, certainly, but not wee. Yes, it's me......you've rumbled me The Firebar is large. Doesn't look to bad in the box.....but then you go putting that late production nose on, and the tip of the rear fuselage, and suddenly it's enormous!!
Wee Beastie
"Hello!! Remember me?!" Nearly finished the project builds I've been doing, is now it's back to the Firebar!First lot of masking done, for the panel colour variation.Untitled by ian gaskell, on Flickr
71chally
Superb build of this Yak, lovely finish as well. I do fancy a 28 but will probably wait now for the Brewer.

sammy da fish
Seeing this project will hopefully give me some much needed mojo. Well done there looking good already and keep going.
Wee Beastie
So my juggling continues. Whilst I'm the doing decals and weathering on the MiG-17, I'm masking off areas on the Yak. Already one different metallic shade applied, this round of masking is for the next shade. After this, I then masked off the nosecone, tail, and leading edge of the engine intake. The last few photos show the end result, so it looks like I'm about ready to get some gloss on, then I'm ready for the decals. Sobby_23
The variation across the NMF is really convincing. She's looking really good, getting tempted to pick this kit up.
M.dart
Lovely build! I have seen that some filling seems necessary, but the result is very convincing! Good also the different shades you applied on the airframe.
