Navy-ating Bucc's fizz - On the deck at last

Have been stalking Airfix Scouts of late on Geltbay: all starting reasonably at £5 then rocketing to £20 or so in a handful of bids.

Ebay is a crazy, crazy place.  I've just seen a set of Gannet decals sell on there for about £25, you can get the same from an online retailer for £7.20 - go figure!

Bill, if it's detail that you are after,

Searching now, not for Spock this time but the wing mounted receivers as they have a slightly odd upper cone shape if my memory still serves me

Not apparently in any set that Big H stocks or I would have ordered them this evening to travel with the master pitot and fuelling probe front which should be here by the weekend

Yesterday I fitted the master Pitot and probe set onto my 1:48th kit.

That took around 5 mins to accomplish. However... it took around 5 hours to track down and purchase (at staggering expense!) a 0.5mm drill bit. Finding an honest politician would be easier.

Luckily a local engineering supplier had some, even after the assistant at the counter swore the plastic bag was empty and almost threw it in the bin (it contained 10 drills!).

I note that the upper part of the wing receivers are scalloped on this kit. Whether they were the same on S1's Vs S2's?

I'm glad they work for you, after the Huddersfield show I need to refit the pitot on my "lurve boat" T2 Jaguar, just a gentle touch on the end as I packed it away next the Hansom Cab and it went click-ish very quietly

My pitot should be here by Thursday or Friday, I tried to buy it from Hannants but they refused the order

" You need to add to the basket to reach the minimum price for a sale"

Tough *itty mate, I only buy what I want and I will not be blackmailed into buying extra stuff so mine is coming from Stoke-on-Trentshire now

😬

I have it on good authority from Mel at S&M that the Wasp and Scout models will be ready for the Cosford shows

OOOhhgoodygumdrops!

A Scout AND a Wasp.

Be still my beating heart.

S & M can be assured of my custom under such circumstances.

Cosford is in April right? That's only 1,128 hours to wait....

(Thanks for the mould offer Bill - characteristically generous of you but in this instance I'll pass on such an undertaking, though I still harbour dark plans for vacforming a Westminster and am collecting references...)

That landing on photo, just had to have that with all that visible detailing

Interesting pic that, as it looks to me that the stb'd wing leading edge outboard of the fold might be in a natural metal finish, possibly unpainted around the leading BLC duct strip.  Variance makes for interesting models!

That it do!

I have been thinking, which can be very dangerous, I have this picture

and thanks to Richard I have the  belly filler

Should I make this build take even longer?

And if I did, what colour is that recce pack?

Decisions, I do after all own another set of S1 intakes thanks to Brian...

Funny thing about the leading edges of the outboard wing panels, I thought they should all be natural metal but that one above seems to be painted

I'm in a bit of a tizz about the wing mounted pointy things too, I was expecting the upper edges to be slightly concave but these are looking like a slightly pointy shape

Is the recce pack painted in Light Admiralty Grey or just a dirty white?

So many questions...

I think it's white, certainly in the underside shots it appears to be.

That will add a lot of interest to the build.

Those wing sensors, I always thought that they were D section ish, with the flat at the top.  Be worth going through some walkarounds for that one I guess!

As reported above the camera pack was white.

The early wing thingys were round and pointy. The later ones had the concave shape on top.

The steel wing leading edge sets the whole look,so you have to do it.

Of course you have to make the build take longer..I'd be forced to climb a ladder into the workshop and do some actual modelling if you didn't.

Have you got the practice bomb pylons?

Richard

PS please excuse excessive use of technical jargon in line two.

Practice bomb pylons? Nah some *ugger offered more than me on the bay this evening

I'll make 'em

Have sihrsc, will fabricate

😀

How difficult can it be?

There's a shipload of raw materials next to the workbench

Soon knock them out

Reminds me, I have still to return your bits

On it tomorrow

That may well be a worthwhile consideration Scimitar, I may ask if I could borrow one

In other news a friend at the club on Sunday permitted me to handle, fondle and desire this

Silly G forgot to take it back home with him, so of course I picked it up

Just to look after it for him of course

Just...

If you are watching G I will look after it for you

Honest...

In other other news I heard from a friend of the legal persuasionfession

The snow looks very cold at Chamonix

Do hope he's OK amidst the snows?

It had crossed my mind he was going surprise us all by popping up as part of Team GB at the Winter Olympics in the Downhill Legal Opinion Slalom...

That fuselage shape...oddly familiar. :D

Is this a new kit in the offing perchance?

Oh, I see there's another aircraft there...

Good, good :whistle::D

I have no intention of building another over and above but have taken a contented look at this CMR masterpiece

It has allowed me to see that I'm not too far off with mine, phew

Steve sent me an icy photograph, if I could find it in the Win10 portfolios I'd share it with you

That CMR kit does look very nice, how does the nose look to you?

In some build the nose doesn't seem quite right along it's upper edge in profile view, hard to say why, possibly doesn't round off enough at the top where radome meats metal?

Or could just be the builds that I have seen!

I've never assembled resin, but the CMR Bucc S.1 is very enticing!

To be fair its quite difficult to be sure of its shape but in honesty I wouldn't swap the modified Matchbox one I have fitted

I believe the shape of the Buccaneer nose has yet to be moulded exactly right

This is close enough to be used but 'still no cigar', sadly

The rest of the mouldings however, one can dream

My mate will be getting this one back and as he had many years working on them I am expecting a fabulous Bucc to be produced

I concur!

It's such an odd shape on the Bucc anyway to be fair, never did quite understand why it was never faired into the fuselage more smoothly than it was.

Still, it added to the character of the beast!

Following on from Massimo's cockpit coaming my less excellent version

The optical doohickey is on but the outline is so fine it don't show up guv!

Here is a stage in fitting the Falcon canopy, not quite as fine a 'fit' as I hoped from first impressions

No worrries I will get there tonight

I think

Honest

I really do think, all sorts of things

Canopy fit even

:)
