TonyTiger66
Superb interior Bill Light years ahead of the original Matchbox representation. Even with the autofocus playing up, the cockpit looks like the real thing. I would like to vote for a Gannet WIP. I have a bagged Novo repop of your Gannet kit. A few months ago I put it in the 'for sale' box after looking at those 'pilots heads for a cockpit'. Now you've shown that an aftermarket cockpit fits; I feel a rescue from the 'for sale' box is inevitable. Especially if there's a Perdu Gannet build, to give us inspiration on how to get the best out of the old Grenoille . 🐸 Best regards TonyT
perdu
Certainly not opening its things Gannet is to be wings out and lovely, as nature and Frog intended My Sea Vixen gets 'the treatment' because of influence from the Red Planet My mind is made up and as inflexible as somebody round here's SIG mentions Got it? Oh well, suit yourself .... Edited August 13, 2017 by perdu

Thank you, if it's ok.. I feel all demanding now Bill ! I think Mr. Ced hinted that he might like the Gannet thread too? Laters is fine, as laters as is needed. if it's easier to do both in this thread, that's more than fine . Either way, it will be good to see the Froggy Gannet getting the Perdu makeover Best regards TonyT

A few months ago I put it in the 'for sale' box after looking at those 'pilots heads for a cockpit'. I've got every Gannet kit going, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. The Frog Gannet is actually pretty good as it represents the shape well, think of it as a blank canvas, sand off the detail and scribe in as little (the Gannet was quite clean in its day) or as much as you want. Go for the original, or Revell (4106) release, moldings if you can. The plastic on the Eastern Block produced kits can be like bakelite! You will have to scratch in detail such as u/c and cockpits, or go aftermarket. There are Falcon canopies and a white metal u/c and intake assembly kit available. The second Revell kit (04397) is a beauty, the first boxing was the Frog kit which must have frightened off a few youngsters, but the Frog kit is good representation with work. perdu
It seems, on investigation that my second kit (which actually has everything in it) is an Eastern Express example Not that I mind, as most of us realise Frog actually made some very asccuratly shaped models even if somewhat sparse in the detailing stakes I still maintain that their Westland Wessex has the most accurate profile of any 1/72nd scale model Wessex kit (I am happy to report that I still own a couple of unbuilt Frog Wessii, yeehaw!) James a Gannet question if I may, I see the AEW3 has bracing struts behind the main gear legs, I have not seen any such on the AS ones I have pictures of. Should they have such too? I saw your comment with the AEW well picture and I know the retract ram sits inside the arc of rotation by the look of it so is there any chance you could clarify this when I start the Gannet's tale please? 71chally
There's only one bracing strut, the drag strut which is attached to the front lower part of the main gear leg and runs up fwd of it, and mounts to the hinge I described. All Gannets have that. The thin 'strut' that you can see aft of the leg is the pre-shortening rod, basically it pulls up and shortens the oleo so that the gear is short enough to retract into the bay. There is one fitted to AS types but fitted in a different way and not as substantial. When you start the Gannet thread I will transfer the info. 1

71chally
Well of course the Gannet was the Fleet Air Arms'/UKs best bomber, but I'm not sure that we are all referring to that here!

Ex-FAAWAFU
I have a 1/48 ASW Gannet in my stash. When I build it, it will have folded wings. Just saying, Bill, just saying. 1

Fritag
Folding wings? Strikes me that aviation and origami - whilst both admirable activities in their own ways - are best kept separate....... 4
