1/72 Heller Mirage IV A, French AF

Recommended Posts

I had this beast in a state of limbo for many months and have given myself the ultimatum of not being allowed to start any new kits until all the backlog is gone!!

Here we have the only game in town for the impressive Mirage IV in 1/72 scale.  The kit itself is very old and has fine raised panel lines as opposed to the more modern trend of recessed.  Fit isn't too bad but filler and sanding sessions are needed!  The kit decals should go straight into the bin as they are awful and will silver badly (experience x 2).  It builds into an impressive sized airframe and having the Instant Sunshine hanging underneath certainly gives you something to think about.

Airbrushed using Vallejo paints and sealed with Alclad Aqua.

I have another in the stash that will get a NMF finish.

Here she is:

Hi,

this is definitely a super impressive plane. It looks superb. so congrats.

It is a pity that you did not chose one with the squadron logo on the fin, as they are usually quite colorful!

Great job

Gorgeous finish on a difficult kit!

There's one that's been sitting on one of my local shop shelves tempting me, but memories of the last time I dealt with the kit have been keeping me from buying it.

The only thing worse than the decals was that terrible pebbly finish the plastic in Heller kits had back in those days.

I think he is referring to the NMF one that I have planned?

That is looking superb. I've got a recent boxing of this kit & wonder what Hellers recent decals perform like, if I could get a result like that I'd be rapt. :)

Steve.

I have bought the new boxing off this kit and the decals were still awful.....!!

Berna Decals so some good Mirage IV sheets but are out of stock in most places.

Looks great.  Always an impressive beast, the Mirage IV.  I think I need one!  Btw, as you had trouble with the decals Hannants has some sheets by Berna and Syhart with some colourful schemes available.  Plus the Berna sheet appears to be nmf aircraft.

I am keeping an eye on the Berna decals at Hannants and will pounce when back in stock.  I used Berna roundels for this build and they are great.  I am not too keen on the overly colourful Syhart sheets.

Cheers,

Sorry, didn't realise they were out of stock.  I agree with you about the other ones though.  Not a big fan of anniversary markings.  I prefer my models to look more 'operational'.
